Review of Related Literature

This chapter presents the related literatures or studies after the thorough
and in-depth search done by the researchers. Particularly, the intent of this
content is to provide a sensible understanding and knowledge if there is a
significant effect of learning styles in Student’s Scholastic Performance in Emp.
Tech. Hence, the title “The Effectiveness of learning styles on Student’s
Scholastic Performance in Emp.Tech”. Given the advanced pace of technology, it
has become a staple in a classroom setting because of its durability and
efficiency to use. Technology encompasses all kinds of learning styles. The most
popular would be Fleming’s Vark Learning Style where he proposed that the
students should be addressed in these learning styles; Visual, Aural/Auditory,
Reading, Kinesthetic (VARK). Furthermore, the platform which technology gives
helps us to bring out this learning styles vividly. Few researchers have probe that
learning styles should be encorporated in a institution of learning in order to
address the different approach of students in learning, that will eventually lead to
the increased of Student’s Scholastic Performance.

In order to ascertain the importance of this research investigation and in

order to enrich the content of this study .This review of the literature for this study
focuses on the Effectiveness of learning styles in Students Scholastic
performance. The review focuses on the scope of how can technology assess
and help various learning styles.

Learning styles are unique and steady, methods of learning are widely
accepted (Butler, 2010). Fitzgerald et al (2001) believed that preferred method
for receiving information in any learning environment is the learning style of that
individual. Learning strategies are specific combinations of patterns of learning
activities used (Anumeha et al, 2015).

Matching is defined in terms of compatibility, the interactive effects of

person and environment (Hunt, 2015). Anderson and Bruce (2015) suggested
that “matching students with selected learning environment is more efficacious
means of increasing student achievement.

However Corbett and Smith (2016) stated that learning style is a complex
construct involving the interaction of numerous elements. Thus, at the outset, the
researcher is faced with difficult task of having to decide which dimensions of
learning style to elucidate and which interactions might be meaningful, in a
practical sense, in understanding their contribution to achievement.
From a phenomenological viewpoint, Gregorc and Ward (2016) stressed
out that learning style is consists of distinctive and observational behaviors that
provide clues about the mediation of an individual. Meanwhile, Claxton in Miller
(2013) stipulates that learning style with instructional mode apparently facilitates
interpersonal relations, and while it would seem to point the way for increased
learning.

According to Mayer (2005a) some people who learn more deeply from words and pictures than
words alone, which is referred to as multimedia principles.
