Story #3: Laker’s NBA Cares event in Shanghai gets cancelled.

While Browsing the ESPN website for the latest NBA news, this appeared as one of
the top headlines on the site, it was actually the first on the list.

canceled-amid-china-rift

Description: The Lakers and Nets were supposed to play a preseason game in
Shanghai and while they were there the Lakers were going to hold an event for their
fans called NBA cares. After a tweet by a member of the Rockets that supported anti-
government protests in Hong Kong, the state kept a very close eye on the NBA team,
cancelled the event and are not going to air the two games that are going to be played.
The controversy has reached the extent that the fans who showed up to see the teams
were a mere fraction of the crowd and the ones that did show up were covering their
faces from the cameras for fear that they might be seen as supporters. This story
would be of interest to a lot of fans, especially those in China, considering what this
would mean for the NBA and China, and could this controversy go beyond just
basketball?
