Issues of wildlife extinction are famous now days.

There are several causes of wildlife

extinction occurred. The first causes are infrastructure Development. Infrastructure
development can be defined as a project of construction to develop and improve the
foundational services with the goal to increase the economic growth and improvement in
quality of life. In other context, the expansion of this industry is due to economic development
and the increasing of people need for infrastructures such as housing, commercial areas, roads
and other public facilities also lead to infrastructure development (Asmawi, 2010). Although
infrastructure development brings a lot of benefit to people, but it is also bringing negative
impact to the ecosystem life. Infrastructure development be one of the factor that lead to
wildlife extinction in Malaysia. Where, during the installation of infrastructure, the ecosystem
will be destroyed. Therefore, a lot of habitat loss occurred because of these activities.
Infrastructure instalment such as roads, railways, dams, houses and other facilities for
development bring negative effect to ecosystems. For example, development of hydroelectric
such as Hydroelectric Task kenyir, Terengganu and Hydroelectric Bakun, Sarawak causes a lot
of habitat loss.

Next causes are poaching activity. Poaching activities also driven to wildlife extinction. In
other words, poaching activity know as a part of wildlife trafficking in countries with high
biodiversity like Malaysia. This poaching activities occurred due to high demand from people
to fulfil their needs. Such as the tiger body parts for traditional Chinese medicine and other
purposes where it has drawn hunters from as far as Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia into the
country. According to WWF (World Wildlife Fund) Malaysia, Tiger Landscape Lead Dr Mark
Rayan Darmaraj said that the tiger population in the country today has sadly declined to fewer
than 200 (Bernama, 2019). Not only that, according to thestaronline (2019), Helmeted Hornbill
also critically endangered from the poacher after its famed red crown, which is prized by
collectors. It is because, International wildlife syndicates will pay these poachers between
US$80 (RM337) and US$100 (RM421) per crown, prized as “red ivory” that can be carved
into souvenirs and trinkets (Thestaronline, 2019). This situation causes poaching activity
increasing. Therefore, it is brings negative impact to wildlife ecosystem which bring to wildlife
extinction.
