Lesson 5

School Program Questions

Acts and Letters of the Apostles | Senior Level

Scripture Memory Verse

“Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the
good news that Jesus is the Messiah.” – Acts 5:42

Acts 6:8-15
1. How did the members of the synagogue oppose Stephen? (8-10)

2. Of what did the members of the synagogue accuse Stephen? (11-12)

3. What false witness did they give about Stephen to the Sanhedrin? (13-14)

4. What did the Sanhedrin see as they looked at Stephen? (15)

Take to Heart
Those who opposed Stephen lied and falsely accused him. In spite of their lies, we see the Holy Spirit’s power
fueling Stephen’s desire for God’s glory and the eternal good of others. Steven spoke with wisdom. He knew
Scripture. He also knew wisdom and knowledge alone cannot win spiritual battles. He depended on the Holy
Spirit’s power. Stephen trusted God has a purpose for everything, even opposition. No one spoke up in defense of
Stephen. God confirmed Stephen and his message with glory that everyone could see. Stephen’s face looked “like
the face of an angel.” God’s truth will be opposed.

10. What did Stephen quote about God from the prophet Isaiah? (44-50)

Take to Heart
Stephen, filled with the Holy Spirit, told his accusers the story of God’s care for Israel – a story they knew very
well. As Stephen told about God’s work through Abraham, Joseph and Moses, he highlighted how Israel
repeatedly rejected those God sent to deliver them. Stephen told them all this to show how dangerous it is to reject
God’s grace. God gave them Stephen to speak with loving boldness about His grace. Stephen knew they had
rejected the truth about Jesus over and over again. God’s grace is not to be rejected.

Talk About It
11. Why do we hesitate to tell people about Jesus when they have rejected God’s grace before?

12. In what situation do you need Stephen’s strong desire to tell others about Jesus?

Acts 7:51-60
13. What did Stephen say of his accusers? (51-53)

14. How did God strengthen Stephen to deal with the anger of his accusers? (54-56)

15. Who was the young man present when Stephen was stoned? (57-58)

16. What did Stephen ask God to do for his accusers? (59-60)

Take to Heart
When Stephen was falsely accused it did not shake him. He looked up and saw the Lord Jesus Christ, right there
with him. God did not expect Stephen to face opposition in his own strength. The pain of the attack could not
keep Stephen from Jesus’ presence. While they threw stones, Stephen cried out for God to have mercy on his
murderers. Stephen died without knowing how God would use his faithful witness. Through Stephen’s final
prayer, God changed the heart of Saul – Stephen’s main opposer – into the Apostle Paul. God gives us His Spirit
to share His truth.

Talk About It
17. What has God revealed to you about Himself and yourself in this lesson?

18. Can you tell about a time the Holy Spirit gave you strength to share His truth?
