Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Fundraising
Work with your Parent Teacher Association (PTA)
PTA’s are essential to ensure that students have engaging school curriculum and are surrounded by a healthy school environment. This creates a safe
environment for students, in order for an optimum learning experience. Furthermore, the PTA is also a great association to raise money for special field trips
and more importantly, the additional financial resources are used for innovative impact projects and activities.
PTA Fundraising Ideas
1. A Hobbies, Arts and Crafts Fair – This enables the teacher to engage their educational community, by allowing students, parents and even teacher,
the opportunity to showcase their hobbies and artistic talents. Have a small percentage of the proceeds go to the PTA and the remainder of the
proceeds would be used to fun the project. For additional funds, a small admission fee would be required for all visitors.
2. Read-A-Thon – The PTA raises funds for the project by having students receive pledges from relatives, neighbors, family, friends, businesses and
others for reading a certain amount of pages. This is an easy way to convince people to pledge because of how much of an educational benefit this
fundraiser is for the students. It not only has a huge educational benefit because the educator can facilitate and give options to the students regarding
their read, so the books selected will directly corollate with the given curriculum/objective/impact project… etc.
3. Sport Days – A great fundraising opportunity for an impact project! As the students compete in a variety of active activities and sports; PTA
members can organize, one or more of the following effective fundraising activities:
• Lemonade/tea stand – Sell lemonade, iced tea, coffee, soda, candy, and snacks to raise money for the project.
• Picnic – Organize a picnic breakfast/lunch with all the students, parents and PTA members, before Sports Day actually begins. Have PTA members set up a table with
picnic breakfast/lunch baskets available for purchase. Give small percentage to PTA and remainder of profits would go to the classes that needed the funds for their project.
• BBQ – Have the PTA members fire up a BBQ to cook burgers and hotdogs; to promote funds for the impact project

Crowdfunding
Crowdfunding Definition:
• The Idea of funding an impact project by raising small amounts of money from a large quantity of people, generally through the
internet using a specific website or social media. (Oxford Dictionary, 2019)
• Crowdfunding can be used as a great asset top schools and educational organizations, that are trying to raise money for their impact
project.
• Donors like crowdfunding for specific projects, instead of general fundraising. Crowdfunding works very well in education because
people who are donating their money, feel better when they know exactly where their money is going and. How the money will be
used. By selecting interesting, engaging and concrete outcomes, will exponentially increase the quantity of donations.
• Crowdfunding not only helps increase funds but it also ensures that reasonable goals are set for the impact project. Crowdfunding
platforms also assign workgroups (PTA member, Parent and Student work groups), assigned roles to ensure everyone is equally
participating and exercising their strengths during collaborative and creative thinking.
• Crowdfunding uses marketing strategies such as local media, social media, email blasts, blogs and social apps, to promote the
upcoming events and identify the target audience to ensure receiving maximum funds
• Make sure to consider either rewards or incentives for donors that make large contributions. This will create some urgency and push
the donors to give a little more, in order to receive a reward or incentive.
• Crowdfunding also offers students leadership opportunities and also allows educators to take advantage of a teachable moment.
Crowdfunding is not only a great specific project-based learning opportunity for students regarding the curriculum, but it also
incorporates creativity, money making skills, money managing skills, marketing and communication skills as well.
• Crowdfunding not only goes hand in hand with the impact project based learning; it also inspires students to become entrepreneurs
and shows students the benefits for planning and executing long-term goals. This is an important and useful tool, that students can
relate to real life events and students will use these positive benefits for the rest of their lives.
