EDT 180 really helped me approach new computer-based tasks more easily and with greater

confidence. Before taking this class, I had very little experience with most of the programs that

we used. When I found out we had to create a website portfolio for the course I was anxious but

excited to learn. To my surprise creating the actual website was the easiest part of the course.

As we progressed and completed each module and each aspect of our portfolio, I struggled and

learned new things. I learned how to use Google Drive which saved me in other courses because

I needed to share documents with classmates. I learned how to use Google Forms which will

definitely come in handy later with students and parents. I even learned how to create a video

and upload it to various websites. I really struggled with the programming module. This was

totally new to me and honestly something I had no interest in. It was rough getting started but

once I got the hang of it, I really enjoyed programming! I even made a Star Wars game for my

boyfriend. I was ready to throw my computer during module 13 but I finally got it and I enjoyed

it. I learned so many new things in this course. I do not think I would have taken it by my own

choice so I’m glad it is required for my major. I think there are many things from this course

that could be used in the classroom.

Technology provides infinite ways of teaching which allows teachers to rely information to

students in a way that they understand based on their learning style. Using PowToon or one of

the other sites we used in this course to create a lesson could really appeal to students. I think

students could really learn from the programming type games as well. As a future physical

education teacher, I was amazed at the ways I saw technology is being used in physical

education classrooms. The overhead projection/virtual reality software available now is so cool.

Teachers are able to create a life size game for students. Most of the games integrate math,

reading, and science so the students are moving and learning at the same time. I also think it is

important that we start teaching students various computer programs early. I remember only

learning very basic things in school. When I started my first real job, I had to teach myself the

more difficult tasks which was very time consuming. Learning programs like PowerPoint,

Word, and Excel and there more complex tasks will be very beneficial later on for students.

Creating my own web-based portfolio gave me serious anxiety at first. This is not something I

would have done on my own because I always thought it was so overwhelming. As the course

progressed, I got much more comfortable with the different aspects of the site. I really liked that

we were required to use most of the tools available. Learning how to add videos and documents

in different formats was great. Overall, I really enjoyed this course and learned a ton of new

things that I know I will use later.
