Review/Evaluation of design:

After considering all three basic sketches that I drew and combining
all the given ideas, I came up with this final design. This design
completely comply with the requirements and standards. This is
modern, sleek and up to the mark. The most important thing it is
budget friendly keeping in mind the material that is used.
The sketch seemed more appealing than the reference designs
while keeping its spirit alive. I decided to go with it while keeping all
these aspects in consideration.

PART B
Design Criteria:

The primary criteria for this trophy design is to give it a sporty look that specifically for the
rugby. The targeted audience is sportsmen so it'd definitely represent something modern and
classic at the same time. The secondary criteria includes many factors like size, shape,
material etc. The material should be something cost effective. The product size and weight
should be small as mentioned earlier. It has to be remain as a memory for years, so the used
materials should be selected accordingly. Material should be eco friendly as well. It has to be
delivered before National Rugby Australian matches.

Design Brief:

The design that I chose is basically combination of all three designs in the strategic phase. It
very well fulfills the primary requirements. It was basically the reinterpretation of the
traditional designs with the new materials. After a brief research and collecting different
designs, it proved to be a challenging design in terms of its look and shape. It is ergonomically
best to be used as a sporty trophy. The designing techniques require less efforts. The writing
design is made on the basis of simple, sleek and stylish. It very well interprets it. The initial
sketch itself is a complete design on its own. The digital version will be more refined and clear.
PART C
Design Proposal:

 After all these steps, I annotated the sketch that I finalized

previously into a digital drawing. The main focus was on the
symmetry of the design. I chose the best tools within the
software that work symmetrically rather than freehand. The
upper shape was acquired using golden circles ratio that gave
it an even look from each side. The base was made using a
rectangular tool.
 There were two phases for this design. First one was to draw
a 2D drawing. The software that I used for this purpose were
Adobe Illustrator ( to draw the outlines) and Adobe
Photoshop (for coloring).
 After completing a 2D sketch, I made a 3D prototype of the
design using AutoCAD 3D.
 The prototype design was up to the mark. I kept the thickness
around 1.5inches, height around 6 inches which was up to the
mark and very well satisfied the initial concept.
 The base thickness was around 3 inches and height around 2
inches that not only helped to cut the cast but also kept it
minimal and beautiful.
 The final maquette was completely in accordance with the
design and keeping all its features and properties in mind, it
was readily accepted.

Manufacturing Process:

 The upper part of the trophy has to be made with acrylic and base with the
carbonated plastic. Sheets of the acrylic and carbonated plastic were cut according
to measurements. The laser cutter was used for maximum accuracy.
 The inside writing and logo part was engraved with the help of laser engraving
machine.
 After the cutting and engraving, upper and lower base were glued together with the
help of adhesive bond. It was kept at STP for 24 hour to let the glue stick well.

Material Technology:

 The material used for this trophy are acrylic plastic for the upper part and
carbonated plastic for the lower part.
 I choose acrylic plastic because it is a transparent material with great stiffness and
strength which makes it long lasting. Moreover due to its structure, it can be easily
fabricated, glued and easy to thermoform.
 Acrylic plastic is temperature and weather resistant. So I found it ideal for my
trophy design.
 Carbonated plastic also shares the same properties as acrylic plastic.
 It is stiff, shiny and smooth.
 It allows any material to stick with it very well with the help of adhesives.
