1. A person weighs 30N on the moon, where g= 1.6 m/s2. Determine (a) the mass of the person; and
(b) the weight of the person on earth.

2. The radius and length of a steel cylinder are 60 mm and 120 mm, respectively. If the mass density of
steel is 7850 kg/m3, determine the weight of the cylinder.

3. The position of a particle that moves along the x-axis is defined by x = −3t2 +12t −6 m, where t is in
seconds. For the time interval t = 0 to t = 3 s, (1) plot the position, velocity, and acceleration as
functions of time; (2) calculate the distance traveled; and (3) determine the displacement of the
particle.

4. The 300 kg rocket sled is propelled along a straight test track. The rocket engine fires for 4 seconds,
producing a propulsive force of F = 1000e−0.2t N, and then shuts down. Assuming that the sled starts
from rest time t = 0 and that the coefficient of kinetic friction is 0.05, determine the maximum speed
reached by the sled. (g = 10 m/s2)
