No matter , how far we have travelled , we are still struggling for our existence.

In Society , where we
talk about women empowerment , giving rights to women , have we really achieved? so the answer is
No .We are still struggling to prove our capabilities, our strength ,our intellectuals,
whether it’s an office or a home .The ratio of female employees is still less though we have reached in
an era where females are supposed to be given to equal opportunities. From getting hired in office to
promotions, females are given the last option .
The problem arises when young adults try to balance work and family, and women end up carrying
nearly all of the caregiving responsibilities.Gender inequality in the workplace continued to be a subject
of contention this past year. One of the concerns is that women re-entering the workforce after parental
leave are not being given managerial roles. They received fewer promotions and pay raises than those
who didn’t take time away from work to care for their families — a situation that mirrored that of
women trying to balance family and career responsibilities. In short, people with children are often
viewed as less serious about their careers and are less respected in the office environment, regardless of
how competent and accomplished they may be.The issue of work-life balance also tends to be of more
importance to women than to men. When a man speaks confidently and directly, he is seen as taking
charge ,When a woman speaks the same way, she is seen as brusque, cold, and unpleasant. At the same
time, women who communicate with kindness and compassion are often well liked (if not seen as
powerful) while men who use a traditionally feminine communication style are viewed as weak. In
either case, the behavior is the same, but because it defies gender expectations, it’s viewed
negatively. This is the one point .
At many points ,its been observed , the male employees feel against their pride to be managed by
female manager.Either they try to create problems for her or they simply don’t listen the orders.Male
employees often start teasing them in front of others and humiliating them behind and sometimes
abuse also .They don’t develop the same respect as they develop for male manager.
The other fact is choosing the profession. Female employees are guided or trained to choose the easy
profession ,like HR ,trainer etc.,they are hardly seen or trained to be sales head , marketing head , even
though they have proved themselves more versatile than males .
Helena Trachsel ,the Head of the Office for the Equality of Men and Women of the Canton of Zurich
says ,”It should be natural for a girl to think about becoming a carpenter when she grows upend for a
boy to want to be a nurse”. There should not be limitations for girls to choose the profession she wants
to be in .
Young people today have a very different view of what a great career means. Many want equality in
their private and professional lives, and see a healthy work-life balance as crucial to their happiness.
This presents a huge opportunity for redefining gender roles. The challenge is to address this in all
sectors – business, education, research and politics. When it comes to gender equality, we all have to
work together. Only then can we provide the next generation with the very best support for shaping
their own path in life and contributing to Switzerland’s continued success – regardless of gender
