Break-out Title/Topic: Introduction / Facing Fears Resources e
Bridge-in:
1. Introduction of myself ( psychology major with biology minor,
Lab involvement, changed programs after first year).
2. Introduction to the mentorship groups ( allows you to make
friends, gives you a buffer between you and the prof, assists in  3
reinforcing your understanding of class material ).   min
Pre-Assessment:
1. Is anyone not in first year?
2. Has anyone taken previous post secondary education?

Learning Objective:
1. Get to know other students and become comfortable with each
other.
2. Feel more comfortable in your ability to do well in this course.
3. Fell more comfortable in your ability to access university  1
resources.   min
Participatory Activity:
1. Go around the circle and introduce yourself, your major, what
year you are in, and one thing you are nervous for or a question
you have about this class or university. Mentor will then answer the
question or provide strategies to ease the nervousness the student
is experiencing. If the mentor does not know the answer, they will
research it and get back to the student as soon as possible.
2. Arrange a way for students to communicate with each other and
mentor, let the mentees decide which form of social media to
utilize.
3. Mentor will give tips on how to succeed in first year ( don’t 10
procrastinate, do the readings, get to know your professor ).   min
Post-Assessment:
1. Are you feeling more comfortable with your ability to succeed in
both this course and university?
2. Does everyone seem more comfortable socializing with each 2
other.   min
Summary:
1. Recite everyone’s names
2. Reiterate some of the answers to the questions students asked.
3. Reiterate some tips on success in university ( taking care of your  2
mental health, becoming involved on campus )   min
