Reflection Paper Assignment

In the course of Problem Solving Using Digital Technology Apps, I have been taught various

applications on the internet that help edit movies, that use different word documents, or even

using JavaScript to code. This course was mainly project based, where each week focused on one

single concept that I would become adept at and learn new skills that could ease frustration while

using the application. Throughout this course, I have been able to use new applications with

great confidence, I have learned the functions of computers in environments such as the

classroom, and I have created a portfolio using a website that showcases all of my projects this

semester.

In the beginning of this course, I was frightened of having to learn how to use different computer

applications such as excel or coding. Being able to approach new computer-based tasks more

easily and with confidence was the a course objective I felt proud of accomplishing. I learned to

not be afraid, mostly, and to understand that learning takes time and to not doubt myself so

much. The coding module was an assignment I was dreading since the beginning of the semester,

but while doing it I actually had fun! That assignment taught me that not everything I do not

know has to be a scary concept. Most of the projects I did were not difficult at all, they all helped

me build confidence as each week would pass, and even though I’d know nothing about what the

application we were learning was I’d still push myself to understand it by looking at other

examples.

A big part of why I took this course is because I will eventually become a teacher and learning

various mediums online will help me become a better teacher. A course concept I highlighted

was being able to learn the functions of computers in different environments, and while I did

each assignment, I was able to visualize myself teaching a lesson using each medium. I learned

that using a PowerPoint may not be the best answer all the time, I do still see the importance of

PowerPoint, but maybe a Prezi would be more interesting. I also see how using a podcast for

homework would be more enticing than having to read 100 pages. I mainly learned that

technology is becoming increasingly important in the classroom and other businesses, and that

being able to implement the technology correctly will be astronomical in terms of learning, such

as knowing the basic fundamentals of coding. Having this knowledge will show the people

around me that I am a credible source to turn to for help and having this knowledge has taught

me the important of Universal Design for Learning, making sure every student will be thought of

when I am trying to implement new technology.

The entire course has been centered around the completion of a web based portfolio, which is the

last course concept I wanted to highlight for my learning. Making the website has been

interesting, in the beginning I was struggling of finding a cohesive theme that showed I cared

and also completing the assignments each week. Doing the portfolio has taught me to be

proactive, making sure I keep up with the website each week and not falling behind. I’ve learned

how to be proactive, but I also have learned how to multitask to a certain extent by being able to

complete various assignments within each week if the assignments were tied together. I would

work on one partially, and then add it to the website before I finished the module. Doing the

portfolio has made me feel empowered, being able to be creative and have ownership of a project

that feels like a part of me. My favorite sub-page is the blog page, this is the page where I

learned about how to use gradient colors on a page, and using the gradient made my page pop

more. I am immensely proud of the website I have made.

This course has been among my favorites to take, as I could visually see my learning throughout

each week. I have been able to grow my confidence using technology, I can understand the

function of technology in society, and I have been able to create a portfolio that shows my

growth of completion over the semester. I have been taught the importance technology and I

appreciate all applications I have been taught and I hope to use technology such as screencasts or

Prezi in my other classes whenever I can.
