WHAT WE TALKIN’ BOUT TODAY?

ALONDRA RENTERIA - OCTOBER 7TH, 2019

DESCRIPTION
What We Talkin’ Bout Today? deals with stories, concerns, or ideas
that are sent in by followers on social media or simply trending
topics that can spark conversation. This podcast creates a friendly
environment that facilitates conversation and may provide advice or
simply a few laughs on any topic chosen for that episode. Let’s talk
about cheating, puppies, or that new Tik Tok video going viral. You
never know what to expect, so enjoy the ride!

TITLE OF PODCAST
What We Talkin’ Bout Today?

PODCAST TOPIC

What We Talkin’ Bout Today? is a question and answer style podcast

where the host will talk about questions, ideas, or concerns
submitted by followers on social media.

GENRE OF PODCAST

My podcast falls under the Society and Culture genre. This podcast is
dependent on trending social issues and topics based off American
culture. Since this podcast also uses social media followers for what
they want to hear, some of their stories or suggestions may involve
cultures outside the U.S. or exploit society in some way. Overall,
What We Talkin’ Bout Today? explores the social and cultural aspects
pointed out by social media and trends.

DESCRIPTION OF HOST

Expect to have Alondra Renteria as your main host for this podcast;
she is a vivacious and honest woman that lives for social media
trends and loves giving advice to strangers! She will be directing
most podcasts but expect surprise guest appearances weekly to
bring some more flavor into the discussions. Jose was the guest co-
host for this week’s podcast; he is a photographer, bringing his
knowledge of the social media world and an innovative mindset!

ESTIMATED LENGTH OF SHOW

What We Talkin’ Bout Today? will be between 15 to 30 minutes long

depending on the length of discussion. There will be one main topic
each episode, but other questions might arise from it leading to
possibly a longer discussion but since it is only one overall point,
thirty minutes sounds reasonable to be the maximum time spent on
it. I looked at a few podcasts similar to the focus of mine, like Stupid
Genius, and the episodes were anywhere between twenty to forty
minutes and there was no rushing. That podcast has more structure
and elements than mine does, but it still inspired me to not keep the
time limit super restricted, yet not overly long. My main view for my
podcast is that it is one that people can hear on their way to work or
school, or just for fun, so I want it to only be a few minutes out of
someone’s day to bring them entertainment.

PROPOSED FREQUENCY OF SHOW

The frequency of my podcast will be twice a week. Since the

episodes are less than half an hour long, I believe it is reasonable to
give the listener at least an hour of content weekly. People might not
be willing to wait a whole new week for a new episode, especially a

2
short one, so I want to keep their interest by at least uploading two
episodes, especially since they are short and easy to edit.

PODCAST FORMAT STRUCTURE

1. Intro music with greeting from the host

2. Introduction of guest co-host
3. Introduction of discussion topic read off social media (Twitter,
Instagram)
4. Discuss the pros/cons of the situation/idea/question
5. Host and Co-host agree or disagree with each other’s views
6. Reminder of kindness (“Tell someone you love them”)
7. Wrap up/ Thank Guest Co-Host/ Preview of the next episode
8. Outro music

I chose this format for my podcast because it is a short one, so not

many elements are implemented into it. However, I wanted to
ensure to have an appropriate greeting of the hosts, a real
discussion between the hosts regardless of what side they are on,
and a reminder to be kind at the end. Those three elements were
the main parts I wanted for sure, so I put the them as first, middle,
and last in the structure to keep it balanced.

SCRIPT VS OUTLINE
Since this podcast is based off social media followers’ questions or
stories, it is significant that an outline of the topic is used without a
script. The host and guest co-host need to have an idea of what they
will be discussing for that episode, but the question or idea should
not be known explicitly so that their opinion is fresh. The guest co-
host will not be interviewed, but instead they will provide another
perspective on the topic so they can discuss internally with the host.
This podcast is very laid-back and does not require a strict script as

3
to what needs to be said; it is based off what comes out naturally
from the hosts.

COVER IMAGE

My cover image is bright and eye-catching, which is what I would

describe my podcast if it was done visually. The font and colors are
fun and nontraditional which is what the podcast is about: being
laid-back. I wanted to be in the cover image in some way to show I
would be the main host, but I decided to only show my eyes looking
up at the title to go hand-in-hand with the questioning tone of the
title: “What We Talkin’ Bout Today?”

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS RATIONALE

I had an amazing time recording my podcast and being able to

express my opinion freely. It made me consider possibly starting a
podcast for fun in the future because it is a great outlet to de-stress
or just talk about random topics one normally would not.
