Muslims, the followers of Islam, and Christians, the followers of Christianity make up over half of the

world’s population. Apparently, these two faiths seem to have nothing related to each other, but the
reality is far from it. In fact, the two religions have same origin and have many points of contact. In
short, muslims and Christians share four important common beliefs: belief in one God, belief in Jesus,
belief in Jesus’s miraculous birth, and belief on the day of Judgement.

Firstly, Islam and Christianity are monotheistic religions. Both muslims and Christians believe in only one
God, who is the creator and runner of this universe. In Bible, Jesus says “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our
God, the Lord is one” (mark 12:29). This verse clearly declares the christians belief in one God. Similarly,
Quran also confirms the oneness of God as it says: “He is Allah, [who is] One”(Quran 112:1).

Secondly, both muslims and Christians believe in Jesus, and hold him in high regard. Most of the
christians believe that Jesus is the son of God, while some believe that Jesus is the second person of the
Trinity. On the other hand, muslims believe that Jesus is one of the mightiest prophets sent to convey
the message of God. Furthermore, Islam is the only religion other than Christianity, which makes it an
article of faith to believe in Jesus. Muslim is not a muslim if he does not believe in Jesus.

Another common belief which muslims and Christians share is the birth of Jesus. Both faiths agree that
birth of Jesus to Mary was just a miracle of supreme God. Muslims believe that Jesus’s birth without
father was just a sign of unlimited powers of God. God can create anyone in any fashion He wishes
(Quran 3:59). Similarly, Bible says: “For with God nothing shall be impossible.” (Luke 1:37). Hence, the
above verses clearly shows no conflict between islam and Christianity on miraculous birth of Jesus

Finally, belief on the day of judgment is one of the most similar beliefs common to Christians and
muslims. Both faiths agree that on that day this world will be destroyed and people will be sentenced to
either hell or heaven. The decision of entering hell or heaven will be based on the deeds done in this
world. Bible confirms this by stating that everyone will be held accountable for each and every deed on
the day of judgement ( Matthew 12:36). Likewise, Quran also says: “And fear a Day when you will be
returned to Allah . Then every soul will be compensated for what it earned, and they will not be treated
unjustly”(2:281).

In conclusion, beliefs such as belief in one God, belief in afterlife and belief in Jesus are common to both
muslims and Christians. There is no doubt in saying that islam and Christianity are on same page
regarding the existence of one God, and existence of life after death. However, regarding Jesus, the view
of two religions differ. Nevertheless, both muslims and Christians have deep respect for Jesus.
Therefore, this common reverence for Jesus can play an important role in developing mutual
understanding between muslims and Christians.
