“The Three Idiots”

(An Indian Movie)

There are just some or a few of those lines and meaningful phrases that we hear in the
movie entitled 3 Idiots, an advice that given to everybody that goes “Life is a race, if you don’t
run fast you’ll get trampled.” And the very meaningful line that would change the way you look
the vision of your life, “Follow excellence, and success will chase you.” And whenever
somebody felt nervous or something is not right, you will hear something like, “All is well.”
What a broad, simple and direct title, it is even understandable when you first heard of it. But if
we will try to look and understand this title deeper, we cannot actually think if what is really
emphasized in this title. To get the meaning of it I was consult to Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary,
and it say’s, Idiot is a foolish person, and has a synonyms of fool and dunce, someone who is
stupid or slow at learning things. An article I was read it says that, idiot is an idiot but sometimes
an idiot is really a great idiot. What he was going through is that, and idiot can be a great idiot if
he thought of something great and may be foolish at first but ends up to make himself successful.
Contented and happy about his life. This is what personality of Rancho or Phunsukh Wangdu
sounds like.

This movie entitled “The 3 Idiots” was filmed in India. For me it is really cool and
awesome movie, it was my first Indian, coming-of-age comedy-drama film to watch in my entire
life with a beautiful story and philosophy. 3 idiots is a story of three engineering students at the
Imperial College of Engineering. The first one named Farhan who narrates the story wants to
become a wildlife photographer, but he pursued and engineering degree to fulfill his father’s
wish to be, then there was Raju needs to improve his family’s financial situation, his father was
paralyzed while his sister can’t be married yet, and finally Rancho or Phunsukh Wangdu the
main Character of the movie studies for the pleasure of building machines. Their story is framed
as intermittent flashback from the present day, ten years afterwards, in which Raju and Farhan
are in search of Rancho. This movie, for me was hilarious and yet really happening in the real
life. This movie wants us to know that being student does not need to pressure yourself and the
school does not need to be pressure cooker, we need to enjoy what we want or what we love,
because you will never be successful if you do were just force to do what others want, but you
will be successful if you do what you love. There was a statement that Rancho told in the story
which is “do not chase success, but let success chase you…..” 3 idiots is really a meaningful

movie it is not just telling us the real situation of student but it also gave us some philosophical
views in life.

As I viewed the movie, the philosophy of Education that Imperial College of Engineering
adhere to is Essentialism, Behaviorism and Perennialism, why? Essentialism, ideas and skill
basic to a culture should be taught to all alike by time-tested methods. Behaviorism, the reward-
punishment system is bias as virus the director of the college wanted to punish somebody who
trying to fight back of his. Perennialism, let me emphasize the case went a one professor whose
trying to ask their student to give the exact meaning of Machine, Racho who answered the
question in a simplest definition but the professor wouldn’t accept the answer, he want the a
definition as what book define. Rancho’s philosophy of education is Existentialism, he push their
two friend named Farhan and Raju in the journey they like to be, as existentialism say, you have
the opportunity to choose what course or what want to be, and does what Rancho philosophical
view. Educational Philosophy of Rancho, because you have the freedom to choose what really
you want and you love to be, without any forced coming from others.

Academicalism, a theory of education I was wanted to distinguished and therefore

implement to the sector of education. Rationale of teaching: not all students want to have an
extra-curricular activity some wanted to focus on their academic and earn a new and innovative
idea. And want to develop thinking abilities. Content of teach: focus on academic without any
extra-curricular activity (intramurals, acquaintance, balls etc.) in order to straightforward on their
academic without any hindrance. I possess also my feeling that such activities are just a
hindrance to the students who focused on their academic. Also, Must teach latest and
remarkable/foundation things of the past that modeled in the future. Critical and creative thinking
must be imposed. Way of teach: focus to the behavior of the students, giving updates to their
thinking abilities, honed the knowledge of the students. Also, my theory wanted to use their mind
to think an innovative idea to address the problem that our country has (economy, politics,
society etc.) and teachers must help students to uplift their enthusiasm in the academic.
