TARGETING ANALYSTS

The Central Intelligence Agency's Directorate of Intelligence (DI) is looking for


candidates to serve as targeting analysts. This work demands initiative, creativity, analytical
skills, and some technical expertise or aptitude.

The minimum requirements for targeting analyst include a bachelor's degree in foreign
area study, international relations, political science, history, national security studies,
international trade, business, economics, finance, computer science, engineering, WMD
technologies, or proliferation. Strong academic credentials in network analysis, stateless
organizations, or intelligence analysis are a plus. For some specialties, a master's or advanced
technical degree, or language proficiency may be required. Candidates must also possess strong
skills in written and oral English; demonstrate excellent analytical ability, solid interpersonal
skills, and the ability to work under tight deadlines. A GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale is
required.

All applicants have to be US citizens and pass medical and psychological exam, a
polygraph interview and an extensive background investigation. Besides that, to be considered
suitable for Agency employment, applicant must avoid from illegal drugs last twelve months.

Salary range of targeting analysts is about from $49,861 – $97,333 (Higher starting salary
possible depending on experience level). Their work location is in Washington, DC metropolitan
area.

Targeting analysts is one of “million” job in The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)-The
independent US Government agency responsible for providing national security intelligence to
senior US policymakers.

According to the Federal Employees' Retirement System (FERS), the minimum


retirement is between the age of 55 to 57; and FERS Special allows an employee to retire at age
50 with 20 or more years of service.

Targeting analysts research, analyze, write, and brief using network analysis techniques
and specialized tools to identify and detail key threats to the US. Targeting analysts regularly
produce a range of current and longer-term intelligence products and provide analytic support to
operations for key foreign and domestic policymakers, military officials, and intelligence and
law enforcement agencies. Available targeting analyst positions focus on regions of the world
and on functional topics including terrorism, weapons proliferation, narcotics trafficking, money
laundering, and cyber threats.

The Director of the Central Intelligence Agency is Leon E. Panetta. The D/CIA serves as
the head of the Central Intelligence Agency and reports to the Director of National Intelligence.
The D/CIA is nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate. The Director manages
the operations, personnel and budget of the CIA and acts as the National Human Source
Intelligence (HUMINT) Manager.

The Central Intelligence Agency has about 20000 employees and an annual budget was
about $44 billion in 2005.
