Choose a clinical or lab practice scenario that you experienced this term that was particularly

salient to you. This scenario may have been a positive or negative experience, the key is that it

challenged your learning.

It could be that you encountered a clinical situation in which you felt uneasy, perhaps something

that you think could have gone better/that you would like to improve upon for future practice. It

could be a situation from the skills lab in which you felt that your practice was challenged or that

you struggled with and mastered a psychomotor skill. Perhaps you had an experience in which

things went exceptionally well, but that pushed you to go beyond your prior knowledge and learn

new things/integrate new knowledge.

According to Mezirow’s (1994; 1997) theory of transformative learning, these situations in which

our beliefs (frames of reference) are challenged, when approached through the lens of critical

reflection, can be opportunities for critical thinking and transformative learning.

2) Use Gibb’s Reflective Cycle to move through the process of reflecting upon your chosen

scenario. The cycle is available in the following article:

https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ecns.2015.04.005

3) Using the 6 stages in the Gibb’s Cycle, write your structured reflection. If you feel you should

draw upon scholarly resources to support your ideas, please do so. For example, if your chosen

scenario led you to question evidence-based practice and compare this to what you are observing

in the clinical setting, then you should use resources that articulate best practice.

4) Ensure that you reference the Gibb’s Cycle framework and any other resources that you use in

writing your paper according to APA format. Headings must reflect the 6 stages of Gibb’s cycle

in order to enhance readability.
