A. A Protocol is a set of rules that governs the data communications.

4. Identify which OSI layers are network support layers.
A. Physical, Data link, Network
5. Identify which OSI layers are user support layers.
A. Application, Presentation, Session
6. Define Topology and mention different types of Topologies.

A. Topology of an n/w is the geometric representation of the relationship of all

the links and linking devices (nodes) to one another.

Different Types of Topologies:

1) Mesh 2) Star 3) Ring 4) Bus

7. Give the number of I/O ports required in mesh topology.

A. (N-1)

8. What are the functionalities of Network Layer?

A. i) Logical Addressing

ii) Routing

9. Classify Switching techniques used in data communication.

A. i. Circuit Switching

ii. Packet switching----Data gram and Virtual Circuit

iii. Message switching

10. What are the services provided by Transport layer?

A. Connection-oriented and Connection less services

11. List out examples of DTE:

A. Printers, Routers, Computers.

12. Expand PSDN:

A. Public Switched Data Networks.

13. Remember any 2 functionalities of all 7 layers in ISO-OSI model.

14. What are the basic network devices?

A. Repeaters, Bridges, Routers, and Gateways.

15. Repeater is a single layered device i.e., only supports physical layer.

16. Bridge is a two layered device i.e., only supports physical and Data Link
layers.

17. Router is a three layered device i.e., only supports physical, Data Link and
Network layers.

18. Gateway is a 7-layered device i.e., all the seven layers in ISO-OSI model.
