While discussing 100 days performance, PM Khan said that with the help of poultry we can eradicate

poverty, adding that he also announced that Government will also provide necessary requirement i.e.
Chicken and Eggs to rural women so that they can start up their own business in their home. In
directly it will serve many fundamental issues effectively.
Poultry is one of the expanding, vibrant and innovative segment in agricultural country like Pakistan,
it does contribute a share of 1.3% in National GDP1, but that’s not as much as a vast country should
be think of. Domestic poultry production has been an instrument or a strategy used by governments of
third world countries to cater poverty problem especially in the case of Nigeria. Commercial poultry
production in Pakistan started in 1960s and thus, has been supplying the Nation the energy of
Proteins.
First, the family will have enough nutrient food for themselves (in a country like Pakistan where mal
nutrition is one of the major problems), The National Nutrition Survey 2011 sheds light on some
disturbing statistics: 1/3rd of Pakistani children are underweight and iron deficient, 15% are wasted
and 14% women are either thin or wasted. Undernutrition, simply put, is a condition in which our
bodies are deprived of all the necessary nutrients, which can only be addressed through a balanced
diet. Our diets in Pakistan are barely what we can classify as ‘balanced diets’. This is an issue that
arises directly as a result of food insecurity. Food insecurity is one of the greatest challenges faced by
Pakistan, according to the Food Security and Nutrition Strategic Review for Pakistan in 2017. The
overall prevalence of undernourishment is estimated to be about 18% of the entire population.
Second, Socio-economic importance of family Poultry, Families can start their own business with less
investment, in directly they won’t be dependent on any one, Family poultry is defined as small-scale
poultry keeping by households using family labour and, wherever possible, locally available feed
resources. The poultry may range freely in the household compound and find much of their own food,
getting supplementary amounts from the householder. Participants at a 1989 workshop organized by
Food and agriculture Organization in Ile-Ife, Nigeria, defined rural poultry as a flock of less than 100
birds, of unimproved or improved breed, raised in either extensive or intensive farming systems.
Labour is not salaried, but drawn from the family household. Family poultry was additionally clarified
as “small flocks managed by individual farm families in order to obtain food security, income and
gainful employment for women and children”. Family poultry is quite distinct from medium to large-
scale commercial poultry farming.
Third Women will have sense of contribution or share in her home (Women Empowerment). Family
poultry is rarely the sole means of livelihood for the family but is one of a number of integrated and
complementary farming activities contributing to the overall well-being of the household. Poultry
provide a major income-generating activity from the sale of birds and eggs. Occasional consumption
provides a valuable source of protein in the diet. Poultry also play an important socio-cultural role in
many societies. Poultry keeping uses family labour, and women (who often own as well as look after
the family flock) are major beneficiaries. Women often have an important role in the development of
family poultry production as extension workers and in vaccination programmes.
After presenting idea, Critics turned their guns against him, a study that has been published in Jang
News shows that the formula that was implemented by African countries could not ended
successfully, because it was unable to achieve the required and expected results.
Gates’ program titled ‘Coop Dreams’ in Africa of delivering 100,000 rural women to ease poverty
was challenged by Matthew Davis BBC’s Africa business reporter who asks where the feed and the
land will come from once the population expands while adding that the increase would also result to

the price falling. It was further revealed that countries where breeding stock is still prevalent in
countries like Ghana, Zimbabwe and Uganda, Still they could no manage to reach 1000$.
Furthermore, the idea of chicken and eggs business to alleviate poverty by Prime Minister Imran
Khan is against the international trend, as the world poultry has shifted to commercial farming, simply
because producing broiler chicken and layers commercially is much cheaper than raising them at
homes.
Poultry no uncertainty is an extremely helpful winged creature to raise locally. Anyway it is inclined
to some fatal diseases that are infectious in nature and that not just devastate the whole load of an
agriculturist, however all ranches adjacent, as the sickness spreads through air.
The average rate of mortality due to New Castle disease (locally known as Rani Khait) and various
other diseases is estimated to be 20 percent of the total annual production during the periods of
outbreaks, which lasts, at times, four to five months. Big farmers in recent decades have taken
numerous measures including Controlled sheds and precautions to minimize the loss, and they are
quite successful. Small farmers in rural areas are still prone to these kind of outbreaks, if these poor
families and women are provided with Chicken to be raised at home, it can raise serious debate about
the Risk of annihilation of entire stock as well as the surrounding.
The poultry industry in country is not that well organized, Prices fluctuate throughout year, Over
production causes price to fall, short supply witness rise in prices especially on some important
national occasions and sometime Monopoly of Business. Poor rural women may not be able to
organize and operate in these kind of volatile environment.
However, since the prime minister has recognised the potential for poultry export, the government
should facilitate the poultry sector and removes hurdles that impede its growth. Since Pakistanis are
deficient in animal protein; poultry use should be encouraged at the domestic level, Plus the ground
for this should be made, extensive research, incentives and relevant departments should cooperate
people to educate and train people.
