Nemesis – Short Film

Concept
For the short film we will have a guy whose brother is very ill and he is
looking after him by paying for hospital bills when one day he goes into work
and sees a p45 document which is what you get given when you lose your
job. This then means he cannot support his ill brother and so he ends up
passing away due to this. The guy then gets angry at his boss for firing him
and seeks revenge by sneaking into his house and killing him with a knife
after searching the house for a while. It will end with the boss’s son finding
the knife which the murderer put down and killing him with it. However at
the beginning we will just show the kid standing next to the dead body
calling the police so the audience will not know who the dead body is and
they may think it is someone important to him rather than a murderer who
he killed in self-defence. This will add a nonlinear structure to the
production as well.

Why are you producing this production?

I have decided to produce a short film as I feel the skills I have learnt
throughout the course will help me the most with this. For example, I have
learnt how to use jump cuts and slow motion effectively. This will mean I can
use them in my production to a very good quality which will help me with
making it effective towards my target audience as the editing will be up to a
really good standard. I have also done a lot of research into what the codes
and conventions of a horror film are so I feel confident in producing a
professional looking production.

What they want to see
They want to see a horror short film as in a survey I looked at this was the
most popular response and so it will me the most effective short film to
make. They will also want to see good editing and an easy narrative to
understand as they don’t want to have to put much thought into the plot
of the movie.

What you are creating based from that research

I am creating a horror with a simple storyline so that it is easy to understand
but is also scary at the same time with jump scares and a creepy storyline.
As the research I did showed that these aspects of a horror film were most
effective to the target audience.

Where the production will be aired (why – based on target audience)

The production will be aired on YouTube as this is a very easy platform to
watch it on especially for older audiences who might not understand
technology as well.
