Module 1 (Chapter 1) Assignment

1. Read Chapter 1 Introduction and review the objectives.

2. Complete the class activity, “Draw your Concept of the Internet” (Optional).
3. Read Chapter 1 Curriculum, watch all videos, and complete all activities.
4. Read Chapter 1 in the Companion Guide – pay close attention to the device icons and the
different topologies discussed. Much of this course will involve examining, building, and
configuring different topologies.
5. Complete the following research Labs (Optional, Recommended):
a. 1.1.1.8 Lab - Researching Network Collaboration Tools
b. 1.3.1.3 Lab - Researching Converged Network Services
c. 1.4.4.3 Lab - Researching IT and Networking Job Opportunities
6. Read “Download and Install Packet Tracer v7.2.1.docx” from the Module 1 Files folder
and follow the instructions. Packet Tracer can be installed on Windows, Linux, or Mac
OS based computers. There are also mobile versions for both IOS and Android, but not
all features are available.
7. Complete 1.2.4.4 Packet Tracer - Help and Navigation Tips. Before starting the
Simulation Mode, locate the Fast-Forward icon in the bottom left of the topology and
click on it a few times to advance the time 2-3 minutes. Do this with the next assignment
also. This ensures the network is at a steady state before you begin. You should perform
this step anytime the Simulation Mode is used. Be sure to watch the tutorials and learn
all you can about using Packet Tracer as you will be using it extensively throughout the
Networking Technologies program. Submit only the Word Document - be sure to submit
the entire document with your responses.
8. Complete 1.2.4.5 Packet Tracer - Network Representation and submit only the Word
Document – be sure to submit the entire document with your responses.
9. Complete 1.5.1.1 Class Activity - Draw Your Concept of the Internet Now Instructions
and compare to the drawing you made at the beginning of this chapter (Optional).
10. Complete Chapter 1 Quiz – it can be taken as many times as needed – this grade is not
recorded in the grade book.
11. Complete Chapter 1 Exam – it can be taken up to 10 times – the last grade is recorded in
the grade book.

12. Submit the following files on NetSpace: Go to Assignments and click on “Module 1
Assignment”. Then attach files – the link is on the right – you may only submit the
document files (doc or docx). You may also leave a comment.
