Bloomz Overview: The Bloomz app is being implemented to encourage a positive and

communicative relationship between parents and teachers. These five lesson plans are workshops
that the teacher will host throughout the school year to inform parents of Bloomz features. These
lesson plans can be held over the course of the school year or in whatever time frame the teacher
believes would be most beneficial.

Content / Materials: In order for these workshops to be effective, the teachers will need to
create their own Bloomz classroom and attain an access code. Extra computers will be needed to
be available to any parents who do not have their own device with them. A projector will be used
to demonstrate how to maneuver the website.

Topics: These five lesson plans will discuss the direct messaging system, the lists feature, the
link feature, the scheduling system, and student portfolios. All of these topics will help the
parents and the teachers have a beneficial relationship by creating solutions to common issues
they face. A positive outcome will create the best learning experience for these students.

Schedule: These workshops are written to be held immediately after school in hopes that more
parents will be able to attend. However, this timeline could be adjusted to fit eat individual
teacher’s needs.

Learning Outcomes: The goal of these workshops is that parents feel comfortable approaching
their student’s teacher and know what is available through the Bloomz program. Teachers will
also benefit from these workshops and will hopefully see an increase in donations, a manageable
scheduling system, and a great way to reliably communicate with their student’s families. The
end goal is that through all of these practical features in the app, both parents and teachers have a
positive and communicative relationship that benefits their student.

Possible Issues:
1. What are the possible barriers / issues for teachers? Describe the barriers and how
to solve them.

 One possible barrier is a lack of willingness on the teacher’s behalf. A teacher who has
been teaching for many years and is set in their own routine may not be interested in
adjusting to incorporate this program. One solution to this is to have a teacher who has
benefited from the Bloomz app show the hesitant teacher some of the unique features it
offers and demonstrate how user friendly the app is.
 Another possible barrier for the teachers is a lack of involvement and interest from
parents. If parents do not attend these workshops or utilize the features that are discussed,
the teacher will likely get discouraged. Teachers can advertise the workshops through
fliers, emails, and phone calls to encourage attendance. After a few workshops, if the
parents are not utilizing the app, the teacher may begin to post exclusively on the Bloomz
app and send out an email notification to have parents check the app. Having the
information exclusively on Bloomz will likely cause parents to be more interested in the
app.

2. Do the teachers have access to the necessary technology to use the Bloomz app?
 Yes, all teachers who have a computer with internet access are able to create a free
Bloomz account.

3. Is the audience at an appropriate skill level to use the Bloomz app? Is there a big
diversity in their learning? How will the project address those needs?
 The point of these workshops is to assist the parents because some of them may not know
how to maneuver the website. Depending on the needs of the audience there may need to
be workshops held in other languages besides English. There will also always be extra
computers to meet parents where they are and not have expectations of them bringing
their own.

4. What might teachers need to prepare before using the Bloomz app?
 Teachers will need to prepare their classroom on the Bloomz app. There are many
tutorials on their website that demonstrate how to do this, but it is a very simple process.
Teachers will also need to inform parents of the workshops a few weeks in advance to
have optimum attendance.

5. What might teachers need to teach the parents before using the Bloomz app?
 These lesson plans start at a very basic level. It is safe to assume that most parents would
be able to use the Bloomz app on their own, but these workshops are available for any
parents who are interested in a more in depth tutorial. The teachers will need to assist the
parents in creating an account and logging in. The step by step directions will help each
parent throughout the process.

Lesson Plan 1: Direct Messaging System

Goal: The goal of this seminar would be for the teacher to demonstrate how to
use the direct messaging system so that parents and teachers are able to
have direct and open communication.

Setting: This seminar would take place immediately after school in the
individual teacher’s classroom.

Group Size: All parents would be invited to attend but because of work schedules 10
- 15 would be expected to attend. This could easily be scaled to fit any
school and any age group. Teachers would be able to adjust the timing
and setting to include as many parents as possible.

Time Frame: This seminar would take 20 minutes.

Subject: This seminar will provide detailed instructions that demonstrate how to
use the direct messaging system and explain why it is important.

Technology Tool The Bloomz Website will be used to show step by step directions.
and
Implementation:
Materials: A computer, projector, and if possible computers for the parents to login
and follow along on.

Planning Before the seminar, the teacher will need to have created a Bloomz
Considerations: account and be familiar with how to use the website. This can be done
by viewing online tutorials provided by the site. Teachers will also need
to have their access codes prepared to provide for each parent.
Fliers can be passed out to students and hung on the classroom door
to notify parents of the upcoming seminar. Teachers may also text or
email their students’ parents so that more parents are aware and able to
attend the class.

Step-by-step Step 1: Give introduction, welcome parents, and thank them for
procedure: attending
Step 2: Give a brief introduction of the Bloomz app and why it is being
used this year. Mention the importance of open and reliable
communication between parents and students. Explain the positive
outcomes that occur when this open communication is implemented.
Fewer behavior problems, a relationship between teachers and parents, a
way to stay up to date on events, and a way to track students’ progress
are all outcomes of better communication between parents and teachers.
Step 3: Have parents either search Bloomz.com on their own personal
device or a device provided by the school.
Step 4: Once the parents are all on the Bloomz website have them click
on the “Parents” tab at the top of the page. They will need to create a
free account so allow 2-3 minutes for that.
Step 5: Have the parents click on “enter code”. Have the code written
clearly on the white board or projected onto the screen clearly for the
parents to type in and join the class.
Step 6: Demonstrate on the computer / projector where to find the direct
messaging tab and fill out a mock message to send.
Step 7: Ask parents if they have any questions on how to maneuver the
Bloomz website
Step 8: Provide a couple of scenarios that direct messaging may be
useful for both the parents and teachers.
Some times direct messaging may be useful include:
 Scheduling Parent Teacher Conferences
 Parents can notify teachers of a death in the family or other
family emergencies
 Teachers can notify parents of ongoing behavior issues
 Parents can ask questions specific to their child that they may
not want to ask in a public forum.

Assessment: At the end of each seminar, provide an anonymous evaluation slip. The
evaluation slip will have 2 - 3 questions where parents will be able to
rate their experience from 1 - 5 stars.
Closure: Thank the parents for coming and encourage them to use the direct
messaging system throughout the school year.

Lesson Plan 2: Scheduling

Goal: The goal of this seminar is to educate parents on the importance of

using the scheduling system through the Bloomz website.

Setting: This seminar will take place in the teacher’s classroom immediately
after school.

Group Size: The group size for this seminar depends on how many parents are able
to attend. Every parent will be encouraged to come. The group is
expected to be 10 - 20 parents.

Time Frame: This will be a 20 minute seminar.

Subject: This seminar will cover the importance of using a shared scheduling
system as well as provide detailed instructions on how to use the
website or app.

Technology Tool and The Bloomz App / Website will be used to demonstrate the step by
Implementation: step directions of how to use the calendar feature.

Materials: The bloomz website, extra computers for parents to use, and a
projector

Planning Teachers will need to prepare ahead of time to get familiar with the
Considerations: scheduling system and post information to reference to. They will also
want to have the access code to their class for any parents who missed
the previous seminar to join the class.

Step-by-step Step 1: Welcome all the parents and thank them for attending the
procedure: seminar.
Step 2: Explain why a shared calendar between teachers and parents is
important and a few times that are especially useful.
Some examples of these times include:
 Testing Dates
 Homework Deadlines
 Picture Day
 Parent Teacher Conferences
 Early Out / Not in Session Days
Step 3: Have parents use their own devices or the provided computers
to log on to Bloomz.com or login to the app.
Step 4: Provide a very brief reminder for any parents that were not at
the first seminar. In this brief reminder go over how to create an
account and project the access code.
Step 5: Direct the parents to the calendar tab and encourage them to
click around and explore the already posted items.
Step 6: Point out a few key dates in the current month to use as
examples. Show that the feature has the date, the time, and a notes
section to include any additional information.
Step 7: Emphasize to the parents that teachers and families must work
together to help their students succeed. Explain that knowing deadlines
and keeping up with their schedule will allow each parent to be more
involved in their child’s learning.

Assessment: Pass out the short, anonymous survey and ask the parents to rate their
experience.

Closure: Thank the parents for their willingness to attend the seminar and
participate in their child’s success. Allow time for any questions and

of questions later on).

Lesson Plan 3: Links

Goal: This seminar will be a more in depth demonstration of how to use the
link feature and what that will be used for throughout the year.

Setting: This seminar will take place in the teacher’s classroom right after the
school day.

Group Size: Depending on how many parents are able to attend, the group may
range from 10 - 30 parents. All parents will be invited to attend.

Time Frame: The seminar will be 20 minutes long.

Subject: This seminar will go over the attachments that can be linked to the
calendar and why they are significant to parents.

Technology Tool and The Bloomz App / Website will be used for the demonstration.
Implementation:

Materials: Projector, extra computers for parents, and the Bloomz website

Planning The teacher will need to upload links onto their calendar to use as
Considerations: examples during the seminar. Printing fliers and emailing parents
would also be useful preparation to reach as many parents as possible.
Step-by-step Step 1: Welcome the parents and thank them for taking the time to
procedure: attend. Give a brief summary of the Bloomz app and why it is being
used for any parents who had not attended any of the previous
seminars.
Step 2: Have the parents log on to their Bloomz app or website on
their devices or the provided computers. Give a brief overview for any
new parents that shows how to log in and provide the access code.
Step 3: Direct parents to the calendar tab and guide them to a specific
date.
Step 4: Show the parents that on some dates there will be attachments
linked for a variety of reasons. These attachments may be video
tutorials to expand on homework topics or links to events at the
school.
Step 5: Click on a specific date to use as an example with a
homework assignment that is due that day. For this example, show the
attachment that is a Khan Academy link with study tools for the
parents to assist their children.
Step 6: Explain that there may be a variety of links used throughout
the school year that are attached to the calendar system. Reiterate that
these links are intended to provide extra study tools and more
information to answer FAQs.

Assessment: Pass out the short survey that allows parents to rate their experience 1-
5.

Closure: Thank the parents for attending the seminar and being invested in their
child’s success. Allow time for questions and encourage them to use
the direct messaging system if any questions arise later.
