CONTENT RESEARCH
The British financial policies had a major impact on the overall economic structure of pre-
partitioned India. On one hand the goods imported from the British empire were low in cost
whereas those with its arch rivals countries were comparatively higher prices .Citing Indian
contribution on the side of the British during world war 1 .The empire led to release of
various concessions to the domestic industries which included taking into confidence certain
big industrialists such as Tata’s, Birla’s. But in general the volume of business tilted in favour
of the British companies selling manufactured imported goods from Britain .This situation
was aggravated by high tariffs on the British manufactured goods thereby giving them an
easy access to the Indian market .With the emergence of Indian National congress, which
was socialist in nature led to a cry for protecting the local industries and to increase their
market participation which was dominated by imperial goods .post-independence the
socialist inclined Indian national congress (INC) envision a soviet style state. Economy under
which the state had an immense control over the resources of the country. The import
substituting industrialization started in 1920 to protect industries and many other
commissions were stablished that recommended that government should buy
manufactured resources as far as possible
