INTRODUCTION

Philippines established a new education program which is the K-12 curriculum on the
year 2012. K-12 program commanded academic institutions to implement work immersion
programs to senior high school (SHS) education. Work immersion enables learners to
become familiar and to apply their knowledge and skills to the work environment. The
program is strengthened through the Department of Education (DepEd) Order no. 30, s.2017,
which aims to help develop life, career skills and prepare learners to decide their own
curriculum exits.

According to the Department of Education (DepEd) K-12 Basic Education

Curriculum, during their 12th year, the students will undergo work immersion that is related
to their track and strand. The venue might be in a boutique, banks, offices, and hospitals.
During this process, students will encounter different environment and tasks assigned by the
staff that orients the students on how the company is being run and how it actually works.
The students spend 80 hours with the personnel in the said partner company. With the help of
work immersion, students are expected to enhance their knowledge and skills, especially their
adaptability skills.

Adaptability skills refer to the capacity of a person to change. As mentioned by

Tlandinyane (2015), Adaptability skills refers to the ability of individuals to proactively adapt
to the changing circumstances and the way in which this attributes affects their engagement
to the environment or organization. Furthermore, the said skills can be learned by the students
in immersing themselves with a different environment that can be gasp through the 80 hours
spent in working immersion.

Interpersonal skills are the behavior and tactics a person uses to effectively
communicate to others. As stated by Lim (2019), in the business world, the term refers to an
employee’s ability to work well with others. Interpersonal skills range from communication
and listening to attitude and behavior.

Moreover, Work immersion increases the cultural sensitivity of the students by

giving awareness and showing more positive attitude towards different cultures which
enhances their interpersonal skills.
