Reflection Letter

Something I have discovered about myself, that as I writer I tend to be descriptive but

then doubt that and my writing becomes vague. I do not think that as an advantage because it

makes my writing not as good it could be. I have tried to change that through my paper after the

commentary and suggestions Professor P. advised me with. Throughout this class I have realized

that I tend to be extremely vague which makes a reader not understand my work, but I learned

how to write a good thesis that can explain the entire paper. I have also learned the stasis theory

and how to identify that in a piece of work. I think my writing has changed a little bit since the

beginning of the year but not really drastically. I do not like writing very much unless it is a topic

I am genuinely interested in. The most difficult part about writing the essay had to be the word

count, it is hard to reach a word count when you run out of ideas to say. Formulating the thesis

was difficult for me because I have never been good at writing thesis statements. It is difficult to

summarize the entire argument into one sentence. My greatest writing success although in this

class would be annotated bibliography, I believe I did a good job explaining each source and

how I could use each to my advantage. Definitely something I have learned from my mistake

was to make my thesis more clear and help the reader understand the argument. Writing has

always been slightly difficult for me especially because in high school all the assignments I have
written have always been based on a topic or prompt that I do not relate to or have no interest in.

I value that writing lets me see how I think about topics or issues and how good or bad I am at

writing and displaying my thoughts through writing. If I had more time I would definitely

concentrate on my thesis more, explaining my citations, a good analysis of the evidence and

opinions. I did not do a good conclusion or a counter argument which is what I would have also

changed. Sometimes I write my assignments how I talk to people, which does not make sense in

piece of work because it is not grammatically correct or it just does not make any sense.

Although in the paper I outlined how I will be arguing for vaccinations becoming mandatory, I

did not go into much detail in my entire paper to argue for that stance. I also did not identify how

every paper has a little bit of bias, but instead I stated that this one article I found did not have

bias and it was neutral towards both sides. I think writing the ILA’s also helped me to write the

final paper because it was short writing assignments that prepared me like fifty percent to write a

3000 word paper.
