All of us who are under the baptismal covenant have promised to offer the gospel to
others.1 Sometimes, fear of rejection or of giving offense looms before us like an
impassable obstacle. Yet some members clear that barrier with ease. I have observed
them carefully in my travels. I can picture some of them now.
5 PARRAFOS
I’ve studied carefully and prayerfully some who are remarkably faithful and effective
witnesses of the Savior and His Church. Their stories are inspiring. One humble man was
called as the president of a tiny branch. There were so few members he could not see
how the branch could function. He walked into a grove of trees to pray. He asked God
what he should do. An answer came. He and the few members began inviting friends to
join with them. In a year, hundreds had come into the waters of baptism and become
fellow citizens in the Lord’s Church.
I know a man who travels almost every week in his work. On any day there are
missionaries somewhere in the world teaching someone he met. There is another man
who seems undeterred by how many he must speak to before any of them wish to be
taught by the missionaries. He doesn’t count the cost in his effort but only the happiness
of those whose lives are changed.
There is no single pattern in what they do. There is no common technique. Some always
carry a Book of Mormon to give away. Others set a date to find someone for the
missionaries to teach. Another has found questions which draw out feelings about what
matters most in life to a person. Each has prayed to know what to do. They each seem to
get a different answer, suited especially to them and to the people they meet.
2 PARRAFOS
Those who speak easily and often of the restored gospel prize what it has meant to them.
They think of that great blessing often. It is the memory of the gift they have received
which makes them eager for others to receive it. They have felt the love of the Savior. For
them these words are their daily, hourly reality:

The Lord trusts His true disciples. He sends prepared people to His prepared servants. You
have had the experience, as have I, of meeting people where you were sure the meeting
could not have been by chance.
4 PARRAFOS
Your worthiness and your desire will shine in your face and your eyes. You will be excited
about the Lord’s Church and His work, and it will show. You will be His disciple 24 hours
a day in every situation. You won’t need to build up your courage for one great moment
to speak to someone and then retreat. The fact that most people are not interested in
the restored gospel will have little bearing on what you do and say. Speaking what you
believe will be part of what you are.
7 PARRAFOS
A few years ago I spoke to the missionaries in the training center in Japan. I promised
them then that a great day would dawn in that nation. I said that there would be a great
increase in the members speaking eagerly to those they met of their testimony of the
restored gospel. My thought then was that the courage to speak would come from an
increased admiration for the Church in that land. I know now that the great miracle, a
mighty change, will come inside the members, not in the world around them.
They and members across the earth will love and listen and talk and testify out of changed
hearts. Bishops and branch presidents will lead them by example. The harvest of souls
will be great, and it will be safe in the Lord’s hands.6
To be part of that miracle, you must not wait until you feel closer to Heavenly Father or
until you are sure that you have been purified through the Atonement of Jesus Christ.
Pray for the chance to encounter people who sense there could be something better in
their lives. Pray to know what you should do to help them. Your prayers will be answered.
You will meet people prepared by the Lord. You will find yourself feeling and saying things
beyond your past experience. And then in time you will feel yourself drawing closer to
your Heavenly Father, and you will feel the cleansing and the forgiveness the Savior
promises His faithful witnesses. And you will feel His approval, knowing you have done
what He asked of you, because He loves you and trusts you.
I am grateful to live in such a time. I am grateful to know that you and I are loved children
of a glorified Heavenly Father. I testify that Jesus is the Christ, that He is my Savior and
yours and the Savior of all the people you will ever meet. The Father and the Son came
to the Prophet Joseph Smith. The keys of the priesthood were restored, and the last, great
gathering has begun. I know that is true.

Todos los que hemos hecho el convenio bautismal hemos prometido enseñar el Evangelio
a los demás1. A veces, el temor al rechazo o a ofender se levanta ante nosotros como un
obstáculo imposible de vencer. Sin embargo, hay miembros que salvan esa barrera con
facilidad. Los he observado con esmero en mis viajes. Les describiré a algunos de ellos.
He reflexionado detenidamente y con oración en algunos hermanos que son
notablemente fieles y eficaces testigos del Salvador y de Su Iglesia. Sus ejemplos son
inspiradores. Un hombre humilde fue llamado a ser el presidente de una pequeña rama.
Había tan pocos miembros que no se imaginaba cómo podría ésta funcionar. Se dirigió a
una floresta a orar. Le preguntó a Dios qué debía hacer. Recibió una respuesta. Tanto él
como los pocos miembros con los que contaba comenzaron a invitar a amigos a las
reuniones. Al cabo de un año, cientos de personas habían llegado a las aguas del bautismo
y eran conciudadanas en la Iglesia del Señor.
Conozco a un señor que viaja casi todas las semanas debido a su trabajo. Es posible que
casi todos los días haya misioneros en algún lugar del mundo enseñando a alguien que él
haya conocido. Hay otro hombre que no se desalienta por el número de personas a las
que debe hablar antes de hallar a alguna que desee que le enseñen los misioneros; no se
preocupa por las veces que le rechacen, sino sólo por la felicidad de las personas cuyas
vidas experimentan un cambio.
No hay un modelo exclusivo en lo que hacen, ni tampoco hay una técnica común. Algunos
miembros siempre llevan un ejemplar del Libro de Mormón para regalar. Otros se fijan
una fecha para encontrar a alguien a quien los misioneros enseñen. Y otros han preparado
preguntas que hacen pensar a los demás en lo que más importa en la vida a una persona.
Cada uno de esos miembros ha orado para saber qué hacer. Cada uno de ellos ha recibido
una respuesta diferente, adecuada en particular a él y a las personas que conozca.
Los que hablan con soltura y a menudo del Evangelio restaurado, valoran lo que éste ha
significado para ellos y piensan con frecuencia en esa gran bendición. El recuerdo de la
dádiva que han recibido les infunde el deseo de que otras personas la reciban. Han
sentido el amor del Salvador y, para ellos, las siguientes palabras son su realidad diaria y
de cada hora:
El Señor confía en Sus verdaderos discípulos. Él envía personas preparadas a Sus siervos
preparados. A ustedes les habrá ocurrido, como me ha ocurrido a mí, conocer a personas
en circunstancias en las que, sin lugar a dudas, el llegar a conocerlas no fue por casualidad.
Su dignidad y sus deseos resplandecerán en su rostro y en sus ojos. Su entusiasmo por la
Iglesia del Señor y Su obra se pondrán de manifiesto. Ustedes serán Sus discípulos
veinticuatro horas al día en toda situación. No tendrán que reunir valentía para una sola
y gran oportunidad de hablar del Evangelio a alguien y después no volver a hacerlo nunca
más. El hecho de que la mayor parte de la gente no se interesa en el Evangelio restaurado
tendrá poco o nada que ver con lo que ustedes hagan y digan. Hablar de lo que creen será
parte de lo que ustedes son.
Hace pocos años, dirigí la palabra a los misioneros del Centro de Capacitación de Japón.
Les prometí entonces que se efectuaría un gran cambio en esa nación. Dije que habría un
gran aumento de miembros que hablaran con entusiasmo de su testimonio del Evangelio
restaurado a quienes conociesen. Lo que pensé entonces fue que la valentía para hablar
del Evangelio provendría de una acrecentada admiración por la Iglesia en ese país. Ahora
sé que el gran milagro, el potente cambio, se efectuaría en el corazón de los miembros y
no en el mundo que los rodea.
Ellos y los miembros de la Iglesia de todo el mundo amarán, prestarán oídos, hablarán y
testificarán debido al cambio que se efectuará en su corazón. Los obispos y los
presidentes de rama los guiarán con el ejemplo. La siega de almas será abundante y estará
a salvo en las manos del Señor6.
Para ser parte de ese milagro, no deben esperar a sentirse más cerca de nuestro Padre
Celestial ni a estar seguros de haber sido purificados mediante la expiación de Jesucristo.
Oren para tener la oportunidad de encontrar a personas que intuyan que podría haber
algo mejor para ellas en la vida. Oren para saber qué hacer para ayudarlas. Sus oraciones
serán contestadas. Conocerán a personas preparadas por el Señor. Descubrirán que
sienten y que dicen cosas que excedan a su experiencia. Y entonces, andando el tiempo,
sentirán que se van acercando más a su Padre Celestial y sentirán la purificación y el
perdón que el Salvador promete a Sus testigos fieles. Y sentirán Su aprobación, sabiendo
que habrán hecho lo que Él les ha solicitado, porque Él les ama y confía en ustedes.
Estoy agradecido por que vivo en esta época. Estoy agradecido por que sé que ustedes y
yo somos amados hijos de nuestro glorificado Padre Celestial. Testifico que Jesús es el
Cristo, que Él es mi Salvador y el de ustedes, y el Salvador de todas las personas que
lleguen a conocer. El Padre y el Hijo vinieron al profeta José Smith. Las llaves del
sacerdocio fueron restauradas y el último y gran recogimiento ha comenzado. Sé que eso
es verdadero.
