July President’s Message Continued:
Just a heads up for next month, we will be having our Club Picnic on Aug. 8 up Blacksmith Fork canyon by the power house where we usually meet. For
our August trip, we will be going to Wyoming with Jim Gray. It will be on Aug.23rd, and you might want to plan an overnight one as it will be up by Big
Piney Wyoming. Jim will be taking us to some new sites that our club has not been to. We will be going after wood and fossils. We will update you as we
get closer to this date.

Well I have rambled on enough. Hope to see all of you at our club meeting on July 11th at 7:00 pm up on the USU campus in the Geology Department.

Gary Warren
President
Cache Rock and Gem Club

I have attached two maps to assist you with parking on Thursday July 11th . The map below is for the brown lot just off of US89. On the next page you
will see a map for the purple lot on the south side of Old Main. Both lots will not be enforced after 5pm. Cache Rock and Gem Club signs will be
placed at the parking lot locations for additional assistance. Jessica will be at the purple lot with a golf cart for anyone who would like a shuttle over
to the Geology Building starting at 6:30 pm. The golf cart will be available after the meeting to shuttle anyone that wants a ride back to their vehicle
as well.

Rubies, also called Pigeon’s Blood

The Mong Hsu region of Myanmar
began producing rubies in the 90's
after discovering that heat
treatment improved the color

exist in Vietnam, Thailand, India,
parts of the Middle East, East
Africa and even the United States.
Tough and durable, ruby measures
9 on the Mohs scale. Diamond is
the only natural gemstone harder
than ruby.
Ruby’s strength and red
fluorescence make it valuable for
applications beyond jewelry. Both
natural and synthetic rubies are
used in watchmaking, medical
instruments and lasers.
Due to its deep red color, ruby has
long been associated with the life
force and vitality of blood. Ancients
believed that it amplified energy,
heightened awareness, promoted
courage and brought success in
wealth, love and battle.
