Installing cable harness (preliminary)

B9L

3-2-1Installing cable harness (preliminary)2007-01-09

Background
The sensor cable harness is transport fitted in the chassis production. The body
builder must fit the cable harness in the body with the branching-off points in
such positions that the connecting points are reached in the correct way.
Cable harness branching-off points
The approximate position of the different branching-off points and the cable
length in-between these points are shown in figure (1). This cable harness draw-
ing No 70394350-3 will be in production from January 2007.
In the present production harness the distance between branching-off point 1
and 2 is 8500 mm and between 2 and 3 it is 6900 mm. As a temporary solution,
before the harness in figure (1) is in production, a 2800 mm long extension har-
ness to be fitted in front of branching-off point 3 is made available.
1. Electrical centre in the roof above the driver. Alternative positions are possible.
2. The branching-off point to the AdBlue pump and tank. The position of point
1 and 2 must be carefully chosen for the cable harness to reach the AdBlue
pump and tank.
3. This point must be in the roof on the left hand side in front of the engine
compartment.
4. The engine compartment on the right hand side rear corner.
5. The right hand side of the gearbox.
6. Close to the cross member in front of the drive axle.

Branching-off point 1
Branching-off point 1 at the main electrical distribution box. The main distribu-
tion box must be installed in a covered, clean, dry, cool and easily accessible
place, normally near the drivers place. The position of the main distribution box
and the branching-off point 2 has to be considered in the same context not get
shortage of harness in-between these points.
3-2-1 R01 Location, main distribution box
• The main distribution box must be installed in a covered, clean, dry, cool and
easily accessible place.

Branching-off point 2
This point is only of interest for diesel engines with Euro 4 engines.
If the AdBlue tank and pump are fitted on the right hand side it might be neces-
sary to put the branching-off point at floor level on the left hand side or at roof
level on the right hand side to reach the tank and the pump. See figure (1).

Branching-off point 3
For the cables to be able to reach the different connecting points on the radiator
module on the roof the branching-off point 3 shall be in the roof on the left hand
side inside the bus, just in front of the engine compartment. This point shall be
accessible from inside through a hatch or removable panel.
When a temporary 2800 mm long extension cable harness is used the extension
point shall also be accessible.
3-2-1 R02 Position of branching-off point 3
• In the roof on the left hand side inside the bus, just in front of the engine
compartment. Shall be easy accessible.

The letter A indicates the roof level and the letter B the engine compartment, see
figure (4). The engine compartment is hot therefore the cables leading to con-
necting point outside of the engine compartment shall not be lead through the
engine compartment but through the roof at C in the principal sketch, figure (4).

Branching-off point 4
The branching-off point 4 shall be in the right hand side rear corner in the
engine compartment. To lead the cable harness into the engine compartment we
recommend that a hole is made in the engine compartment housing at A in fig-
ure (5).
Split the cable harness at the 7 or 9 connectors at D in figure (4). Pull it back and
pass the harness from underneath through the hole A in figure (5). The harness
shall be clamped on the outside of the heat insulation of the engine compart-
ment. For heat insulation see BBI 1-2-1.
The hole A must be carefully sealed around the harness.
