Simulation: Shortcut Distillation column using DWSIM

Objective:204 kmol/h of a benzene of mol% benzene (LK) and 40 mol% toluene (HK) is to be separated
into a liquid distillate and a liquid bottoms product of 95 mol % and 5 mol% benzene, respectively. The
feed enters the column with a molar percent vaporization of 0.611 and a Reflux ratio of 1.6. Compute, at
1 atm:

Objective: Mass flow rate of feed stream is 3600 kg/hr at 70◦c and 1 bar pressure, stream contains ethyl
alcohol, acetic acid and water with mole fraction 0.48,0.5,0.02 respectively. The reaction is isothermal
reaction with ra=K0CACB, K=0.005 and n=2.

Simulation: Multi component Distillation by using ChemCAD.

Objective:- To separate equal wt% of feed of mixture of benzene, Toluene, Xylene into 3 Stream each at
least 99.9 wt% pure by selecting of better process sequence out of the following configuration at
R/Rmin- 1.28 and 1.12 for both column respectively. Remove Xylene from bottom of the 1st column
then separate benzene and toluene from 2nd column. Feed condition:

Temp = 110 degree C

P = 1 atm

Total flow = 2000 kg/hr

Objective: Feed stream containing 0.5 kmol/h each of acetone and water enters the heat
exchanger at 293K and 1 atm pressure and leaves at 373K. Plot TPXY curve.

Experiment 7

AIM : Designing of the Packed Tower.

Objective: A packed tower consisting of 20 segments has inlet solvent stream entering at 50 psia
pressure and 100◦ F with composition of H2O and HCl as 250lbmol/hr and 1 lbmol/hr respectively. The
gas stream enters at second feed stage at pressure 50 psia and 100◦ F and composition of nitrogen,
oxygen and HCl as 80 lbmol/hr, 20 lbmol/hr and 30 lbmol/hr respectively. Packed tower diameter is
1.08097 ft and packing height is 30 ft. Column pressure drop is 14.7 psia.
