Slide 1:

Hello everyone, and welcome to Romania! My name is Stelian Tetileanu and I am here on behalf of this
year’s Erasmus Plus’ Project to present you one of the many many things that make up the identity,
culture and tradition of this beautiful country we call ‘’Romania’’. Without further ado, I am going to
present you: Bănița Citadel

Slide 2:

The first thing we’re going to talk about is the territory organization.

Not unlike many citadels, this one was also made in order to protect or limit access to a certain place. In
this case, the citadel was supposed to limit access from the South to Sarmisegetusa- Regia.

This place!

What stands out about this place is that the Southern, eastern and western slopes of the Bolii Hill…

…this one, are particularly steep, therefore the Dacian fortifications were located on the northern side.

Slide 3:

Next up are the Archaeological objectives!

*Click x 2*

In order to slow down enemy advance defensive structures, fighting platforms and many other things
were built. The northern side is, or used to be, the most heavily fortified. Since the citadel’s sole purpose
was to protect, it is only natural for it to have been built in such a way to be able to withstand powerful
attacks. And that is why its walls can reach a length of 115m and a thickness of up to 1.4m. The acropolis
was built at a height just shy of 1km from sea level so you can just imagine the view!

Slide 4:

And there you have an old drawn map of the citadel from the top view on the left and a 3D
reconstitution of it on the right.

Slide 5:
For everyone that’s still awake after that not-so-interesting slide, how about we move on to something
more gripping? The Artifacts!

The type of artifacts may vary from weapons (although not many), iron fragments, ceramic
fragments*click*, bracers *click* and a coin *click*. The most valuable things found include some
materials, the bracer and the coin so it is fair to say that Banita Citadel was not one of the wealthiest
citadels there were at the time.

Slide 6:

Now, for everyone that might want to actually visit the citadel, get ready to get your hopes crushed
because following up, we are going to talk about: The Access.

*reads what’s on the slide*

In the bottom left you can see a map of the DN66 and right next to it, a very hopeful, cheerful and
overall happy traveler. But wait!

*clicks*

Slide 7:

The traveler is not happy because he didn’t pay any attention to what I just said. The way to the citadel
is very steep, the access is extremely difficult even for our well-experienced traveler and it can even be
dangerous to inexperienced tourists. For these reasons we will *not* be visiting the citadel itself and
we’ll have to stick to my presentation only. It is for the better.

*clicks*

We wanted to visit it this summer but…………

Slide 8:

I hope you’ll come to see the beauty of Romania as Romanians do.

Thank you for your time, have a nice day

(At this point they’ll just have lost all attention so the references can just act as a background as they ask
questions, tell their opinions and whatnot)
