Description

1) Teacher describes to the class his own experience, namely that working
conditions and circumstances affect his performance. They may vary a lot, which
is why it would be useful for the students to try out and see how they perform
under varying conditions. Written tests done under different conditions are a good
way of finding out. Subject to the outcome, teacher and the class may reach an
agreement what the optimal conditions should be, and stick with them from then
on.
2) The first test is written under usual conditions.
3) In the next lesson, a different 10-minute test is done, but this time, teacher plays
music. The piece(s) ought to be of a calming nature, perhaps classical music,
easy listening, or similar.
4) Teacher asks his students to choose the music they like and bring it to the next
lesson. This time, the test is being written to the tunes they enjoy.
5) Next, an "assistant" may be "invited" – another teacher, an expert in the subject,
sister, brother, mum or dad, a friend who knows the subject well. někoho blízkého,
maminku, sourozence, otce, kamaráda, který umí daný předmět. This, no real
person, but only the idea (image) of the person helping out with the test.
6) All the tests need to maintain the same level of difficulty. Each is assessed for the
number of mistakes, and their results are compared. The results tend to differ a
lot, usually being the best under traditional conditions (absolute quiet).

7) Conditions may be experimented with – this is fun, and motivates the class to
performance. Teacher runs a discussion on what conditions the students have at
home for learning and preparation for school: Do they learn while TV is on?
Listening to music? In complete silence? Do they set aside their own space and
time for studying, or do they interrupt with other activities?

Risks and It needs to be stressed that everybody may prefer very

different conditions, which is why we need to reach an
recommendations
agreement.

Questions for discussion:

How did it go?
Feedback Was the work instersting for you, and its result important?
Will the result affect in any way your approcah to studying?
How exactly?
