Dentistry’s Assignment – Thursday, November 28th, 2019

A. Preparing and Restoring composite Resin Restorations – The Advantage of High Magnification
Loupes or the Dental Surgical Operating Microscope
B. Necrotizing Fasciitis Case Presentation and Literature Review
C. Adhesive Approach Using Internal Coping for Vertical Root Fractured Teeth with Flared Root
Canals

Questions:

1. Read the text which is given to you and make its abstract!
Use of microscope-level magnification, combined with co-axial illumination (MLMCI), may
improve a dentist’s ability to pre- pare, bond, restore and adjust composite restorations,1-3 com-
pared to the use of unaided vision and non-co-axial, shadow- forming overhead lighting. A co-
axial light axis is coincident with the visual axis of the dentist’s eyes, resulting in shadow- free
illumination and MLMCI facilitates observation of the colors and textures of carious material and
verification that a slow-speed round bur has removed all soft, carious tooth material from the
margins and base of the preparation Microscopically precise tactile sensitivity enables
associating the feel of an explorer probing a soft carious point with the point on the preparation
surface where the caries exists. MLMCI also makes possible detection of sub-gingival plaque, food
particles or calculus that is contiguous with a preparation margin. And it aids in distinguishing
this material from caries, stained but non-carious tooth structure or healthy marginal tooth
structure

2. What is/are the objective(s) and hypothesis of your journal?

MLMCI can enhance the dentist's ability to detect and remove microscopic caries
MLMCI facilitates observation of the colors and textures of carious material and verification that a
slow-speed round bur has removed all soft, carious tooth material from the margins and base of
the preparation.
The MLMCI facilitates the detection of microscopic caries at contact points between the proximal
surfaces and caries in the perior aspect of Class III preparation, as well as hidden caries under the
tips of the tops or undercut areas of the posterior.
MLMCI enables dentists to distinguish between Chang-microscopic ice in the angle and direction of
light polymerization and in the distance from restorative material to light.
MLMCI helps clinicians detect microscopic amounts of moisture contamination in the
preparation and verify moisture removal through air drying
3. What is/are the research question(s) of your journals?
What MLMCI can facilitate in this case  MLMCI facilitates observation of the colors and
textures of carious material and verification that a slow-speed round bur has removed all soft,
carious tooth material from the margins and base of the preparation
how the basic technique of Bulk Filling with Composites  by using a composite applicator
gun to slightly overfill preparations with composites, then using gloved fingers, moistened with
acid-free bonding agents or flowable composites (to prevent gloved fingers from sticking to
composites), to push composites into preparation. The dentist then removes the gloved finger
from the composite and verifies, using MLMCI, that the finger is not up-pulling each composite
from the preparation and that the entire perimeter of the preparation is in contact with the
composite material. The dentist removes the excess composite which has flowed past the side
or into the inter-proximal space of the tooth and then the light-polymerization of the
composite. When bulk filling the posterior occlusal-buccal preparation, where occlusal and
buccal surfaces are close together, MLMCI facilitates verification that the finger forces are not
the cause of the composite at the angle of the occlusal-buccal line to lift slightly, thereby
creating a vacuum below the composite at this angle of the line.

This is individual assignment based on the following distribution:
