1. If 5 times of a number is added with 27, the result is same as adding 10 times of the number by 2.

Then, find the number.

Let the number be x. According to the question we have,
5x + 27 = 10x + 2
 5x - 10x = 2 - 27
 -5x = -25  x = 5
∴ The required number is 5.

2. Perimeter of a rectangle is 122 m. If the length is 36 m, then find the area.

Perimeter of the rectangle = 122 m
 2 (Length + breadth) = 122 m
 2 (36 + breadth) m = 122 m
 (36 + breadth) m = 61 m
 Breadth = (61 - 36) m = 25 m
∴ Area of the rectangle = (31 × 25) m2 = 775 m2

3. If the angles of a triangle are in the ratio 2 : 3 : 4, then the difference between the greatest and the
smallest angle is ______.
By angle sum property, sum of all the angles in the triangle will be 180°.
Let the angles be 2x, 3x and 4x degrees.
2x + 3x + 4x = 180  9x = 180  x = 20°.
Required difference = (4 × 20) - (2 × 20) = 80 - 40 = 40°.

4. The ratio of ages of a girl to a boy is 3 : 2. If after 10 years, there ratio of ages will be 11 : 9, then
find their present ages.
Let the age of the girl be 3x years and boy is 2x years.
According to the question, we have
3𝑥+10 11
=
2𝑥+10 9
 9 (3x + 10) = 11 (2x + 10) (cross multiplying)
 27x + 90 = 22x + 110 (removing brackets)
 27x - 22x = 110 - 90 (combining like terms)
 5x = 20  x = 4
∴ Present age of girl = (3 × 4) years = 12 years.
∴ Present age of boy = (2 × 4) years = 8 years.

5. 4 times a number added to 50 gives result as 130. Find such a number.

According to the question,
4x + 50 = 130  4x = 80  x = 20
∴ The required number is 20.

6. In the given triangle, AB = BC where C is the midpoint of BD. Find ACD°

A

B C D

ABC is an equilateral triangle where, .....(1)

AB = BC = AC = CD (as C is midpoint of BD)
In ABC,
A° = B° = C° .....(2)
From (1) and (2) we get,
3A° = 180°  A° = 60° (By angle sum property of an equilateral )
By exterior angle property of a , we have
Angle ACD = 2 × 60° = 120°
7. In a city, the price of each tea pack increases by 20 %, whereas consuming tea packs decreases by
20 %. Then find the net decrease/increase of price consuming of each tea pack.
Let the cost of each tea pack be Rs. 100 and people buying it is 100.
∴ Total amount taken = Rs. (100 × 100) = Rs. 10000.
After increasing 20 %, cost of each tea pack = Rs. 120
After decreasing 20 %, number of people consuming tea packs = 80
∴ Total amount taking after changes = Rs. (120 × 80) = Rs. 9600.
10000−9600
∴ Net decrease % = × 100 = 4 %.
10000

8. Find the shaded area in the given figure.

25 cm

6 cm

18 cm

1×25×18
Area of the larger triangle = = 225 cm2
2
1×18×6
Area of the inner triangle = = 54 cm2
2
∴ Shaded area = 225 cm 2 - 54 cm2 = 171 cm2

9. The given figure shows a circular path formed when a smaller circle is fitted into a bigger circle as
shown. If the ratio of radii (plural of radius) of bigger circle to smaller circle is 3 : 1, and area of the
path is 1232 m2, then find the circumference of the inner circle.

Let the radius of outer circle be 3x, and inner circle be x.

Formula for area of circle = 𝜋𝑟 2
Putting the values in the equation,
22×3𝑥×3𝑥
Area of outer circle =
7
22×𝑥×𝑥
Area of inner circle =
7
We get,
22×3𝑥×3𝑥 22×𝑥×𝑥
 - = 1232
7 7
22×3𝑥×3𝑥−22×𝑥×𝑥
 = 1232
7
 22 × 9x - 22 × x = 1232 × 7
2 2

 198x2 - 22x2 = 8624

 176x2 = 8624  x2 = 49  x = 7
22×7×2
Circumference of inner circle = = 44 cm.

10. In given figure showing a napkin, the four corners are folded and the new shape which is got is
coloured. Then the paper was unfolded, then find the area of the unshaded region, if the breadth of
the rectangle is 20 cm and length is 32 cm and P, Q, R and S are midpoints of XA, AB, BC and CX
S
C X

R P

B A
Q
Area of the figure = (32 × 20) cm2 = 640 cm2 ....(1)
Now, P, Q, R and S are midpoints of XA, AB, BC and CX. ....(2)
Also, CX = BA, and CB = XA. ....(3)
 SC = BQ = SX = QA and CR = RB = PA = PX
SC = 32 ÷ 2 = 16 and CR = 20 ÷ 2 = 10.
Also,  SCR =  SXP =  PAQ =  BRQ (from 2 and 3)
Area of triangle SCR = 1/2 × 16 × 10 = 80 cm2
Therefore, shaded area
= Area of triangle - Area of 4 squares
= 640 cm2 - 320 cm2 = 320 cm2
