w ater is one of the most basic needs of not only human beings but for everything alive

on this planeti. The surface of earth contains about 70% of the waterii and human body
contains 55% to 78% wateriii, depending on body size.is a final year M.B;B.S. student at
King Edward Medical University.

Keeping the fact in mind that the major portion of earth and human body consists of
water, understanding the nature and properties of water becomes very significant for the
proper understanding of mankind and life on earth. Similarly all those things which can
bring any change in the structure or pattern of crystallization of water should also bring
changes in the structure made up of water just like human body which is merely 78 % of
water in adultsiv and even more in children.
HYPOTHESIS:
Main claim of the article is water can be given healing power by reciting different prayers
on it and experimental evidence of changes in crystalline shapes of water has been given as
proof from scientific literate. Healing by praying different verses on water has been
common practice in some sections of Muslims all over the world.
NEED OF THE HOUR:
Zam Zam, Holy Water of Muslims from the city of Makkah has been specially used for
such purpose with the faith of having some super-natural power of healing different
diseases. This practice is also common in different regions of world like in Indo-Pakistan
especially in underdeveloped class who believe in spiritualism. Neither there is scientific
data to support the claim nor any documentation to check the percentage of patients who
got benefit from such practices. It is inevitable that a procedure is adopted which can be
used to check the validity of such claims. Another problem in this regard is those people
who claim to have been cured by this way, also resorted to medicine so it can’t be said for
sure that whether it was due to medicine or some healing power of water by itself that
helped in cure of disease. Scientific procedure can be adopted in order to check the validity

of claim and to accept or reject the notion of healing by the power of prayers or positive
emotions.
PREVIOUS RESEARCH ON ZAM-ZAM:
Some interesting conclusions have been drawn from researches carried out on Zam Zam
water. According to research carried out by Professor of King Saud University, College of
dentistry, Zam Zam water from both sources (well and pipes) has been proven to contain
high levels of fluoride when compared to normal water. The preponderance of evidence
indicates that fluoride can reduce the incidence of dental caries and that fluoridation of
potable water can provide such protection .Calcium content is also found to be higher in
Zam Zam water as compared to other sources. Ionic calcium in water is the best form to
use to ensure its proper absorption by the bones and teeth.
Work of Masaru Emoto: It was not up till 20th century that man that tried to explore a
unique concept of water i.e. crystalline memory of water and one name that can’t be
separated from this is of Dr. Masaru Emoto, Japanese scientist who is one of the pioneer of
research on water and author of many books e.g. “The message from water”.
CRYSTALLINE MEMORY OF WATER:
According to the concept of crystalline memory of water, water stores the memory of the
events happening around in the form of crystals. It not only responds to sounds and events
around it but also to the words pasted on bottle containing water and the response is
depicted in the form of different forms and shapes of crystals, some beautiful and some
disordered.
DESIGN OF EXPERIMENT OF MASARU EMOTO:
In order to observe the different forms of crystals of water, there was need of specific sorts
of equipment and conditions. Water samples needed to be frozen and then before they
could melt, they had to be placed under microscope attached with camera to be analyzed
and photographed. For the said purpose refrigeration room was made and pictures were
taken after freezing the water for 2 hours under the magnificence of 200-500 times.
Different types of water gave different sorts of crystals.

RESPONSE TO MUSIC:
In order to check the response of water from music, series of experiments were carried out
by Masaru Emoto team. But there were questions like what’s the best way of playing music
to water, what should be volume, distance, genre, duration and the only way to answer
these questions was by trying and recording results time and again till best results are
obtained. Experiments were done on distilled water and results were obtained by taking
pictures of frozen crystals of water. Following procedure was considered the best after hit-
trial method by Masarau Emoto and team.
Distilled water was placed in between two speakers and one piece of music was played at
normal volume. Bottom of the distilled water was taped and left overnight. Bottom was
tapped again in the morning before freezing and then pictures of crystals were taken.

SHOWING LETTERS TO WATER:

In this experiment, different words were labeled on the distilled water and left for a night.
On one bottle “You fool” was written and on the other “Thank you” was written. Next day
they were frozen and pictures were taken. Same experiment was repeated by changing staff
but results remained same. Similarly there was clear difference in reaction of water to
words “soul” and “demon” and “angel” and “devil”.

WATER AND SOUL:

Similarly prayers had marked effect on the shape of crystals. Prayers made the crystal
beautiful.

WAY OUT:
For this purpose specific controls study designs should be made. One group can be given
the prescribed medicine as suggested by doctors and other group is to be given the
treatment of holy water on which prayers have been recited and their progress over time
should be checked in different diseases.
BENEFITS:
It will help us in solving the myth once for all.

 If there is found any healing power in the water, it opens new field of research and
provides us with very inexpensive way of treating diseases with almost no side-
effects.
 If it turns out with negative results, it helps in labeling the notion as myth and in
settling the issues and debate once for all.

DRAWBACKS:
No drawbacks are expected but the experimentation requires very careful recording of
observation and specific conditions which must be met in order to make the design
acceptable universally for scientific community.
SOCIAL ACCEPTABILITY:
In case of positive results in religion dominant societies, there is no issue of social
acceptability as people would accept it with open arms but in those societies where religion
is not given as much importance and secularism prevails, public awareness would have to
be increased by promotional campaigns and by scientific experimentation backing.
In case of negative results of hypothesis, the situation is opposite; it would be still difficult
to persuade people to change their beliefs in healing power of water while it would be easy
in those societies where religious influences are not dominant on social life.
