GRADUATION PROJECT GUIDELINES – 2019-20

INTRODUCTION - Graduation project is an opportunity to work self-reliantly in a

professional environment. Sense the real-world restraints while creating value for the business.
Gain an immersive experience in a design centric business and to take off into the professional
realm.

In the ever-growing world of fashion, the Fashion Communication (FC) design programme at
NIFT happens to be the single most cutting-edge, exciting, and increasingly essential pathway
to open up in the fashion and lifestyle industry. The significance of brand identity has come to
be seen on par with what the brand sells i.e., the product. Numerous prêt and luxury brands
keep appearing in the Indian retail scenario, and it has become essential for each one of them
to develop a unique brand identity for maximum impact and visibility. Fashion Communication
has made it feasible for these brands to communicate their products, identity, and strategy, by
providing a platform for these very brands. The Fashion Communication programme primarily
focuses on four major domains i.e., Graphic Design, Space Design, Fashion Media and Fashion
Thinking, and the related genres of these major areas, using hand and digital skills through
knowledge, application and practice based approach.

GRADUATION PROJECT GUIDELINES

1. Time duration of GP strictly needs to be 18 weeks. (Any student falling short of the
timeline will not be allowed to appear for jury.)

2. Students need to identify a domain within FC dept. and come up with a GP objective
with research area, suitable methodology and deliverables to be vetted by dept. mentors
allotted to you. A mentor list will be formed as soon as all students submit their choice
of domain for GP.

3. Suggested minimum stipend of Rs.10,000 to 15,000/- per month for the student for
the entire duration of the project.

4. As soon as students join a company for GP, they need to send a confirmatory mail to
the department indicating your name, industry/organisation name & HR contact details,
industry mentor name & contact no, start date of GP on the company letterhead with
the seal or an email from the head of the company/ HR/ Industry mentor from the
company.

5. Students need to weekly update the dept. mentors by sending weekly reports.
 6. A MID-GP JURY is scheduled (16th and 17th March 2020) in the timeline, all
students are required to report for the same to NIFT Patna. Prior information to the
company regarding the same is anticipated.

7. Once the GP is completed, students need to get a GP completion Certificate and

Industry feedback form signed from the Industry mentor/Head of the company. Both of
them needs to be on company letterhead, with proper seal and signature of the mentor/
authorized signatory. The Industry feedback form needs either to be mailed directly by
the mentor to the CC either through mail/ post, or can get the same in the sealed
envelope. It may also be noted that getting GP Completion Certificate and Industry
Feedback form is mandatory and the student is responsible for getting the same,
however, in case of any complication student may take help of their respective mentors.

8. It is also intimated that the GP should be strictly in one single company for 18 weeks
at a stretch, no request for doing GP in multiple companies shall be entertained.

9. The project schedule and duration must be adhered to by the sponsoring industry to
ensure that the project is completed in all respects as per the academic calendar.

10. Students may also require to travel to NIFT campuses to appear for common placements organised by
NIFTin between of Graduation Project.

11. Lastly, no Self-GP is allowed.
