Learning Objectives:
• The student can identify the basic properties of matter and the building blocks of matter.
VBO: SCI 5.1—The student will understand the basic structure and behavior of matter through
inquiry.

• Science book
• Science notebook
• Brain Pop video https://www.brainpop.com/science/matterandchemistry/measuringmatter/

1. The class will discuss the different forms of matter and their properties.
2. The teacher will ask the students how would we measure the mass of each of
these objects? What are some other tools we can use to measure matter?

• The student will be able to identify constants, dependent and independent
variables in an experiment.

mins 1. The class will read page 5-6 in the matter book together. The teacher will stop to
discuss the different tools and what they can each be used for.

• For the visually impaired student, the teacher will be sure to supply her with a enlarge
version of the exit ticket with at least 16pt font and ensure she is sitting close to the screen.

• The teacher will need to the set up the Brain Pop video ahead of time.
