A. TITLE
UTILIZATION TWITTER AS ENGLISH LEARNING MEDIA ON WRITING SKILL
FOR STUDENT’S AFFECT IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE.
B. BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Twitter is a popular microblogging social networking site, allows individuals to
communicate by sending short messages of up to 140 characters. Although it
enables people to be inconstant contact, its value in educational context is less
clear. This paper is the first to examine empirical studies of using Twitter in teaching
and learning over 10 years from 2006 to 2015, with the aim of understanding
whether its implementation would benefit students or not1. Social media have
been continually changing the people’s way of living in variousaspects
such as communication, knowledge exchange, commerce, and education. With
theincreasing popularity of various social media sites and other related platforms,
scholars andresearchers from different fields keep finding them to be an area
of study that needs to beexplored further. Language practitioners and educators
in particular have seen the impact ofsocial media in second language acquisition
and learning2. Internet and Education are two entities that complement each other.
Internet has always offered educational activities new approach and media to deliver
the service to students3. Sometimes students are very difficult to learn english. From
learning the daily vocabullary to how to arrange grammar. Naturally, students are
less interested in learning through books or through learning videos on youtube.
Students nowdays are very interest in reading on twitter. Usually the reading
material on twitter is called a thread. All people can write a thread, whatever the
content of the thread. Many people also use thread feature less wisely. Students get
poor information. It would be nice if the thread was filled with english learning
material. Students are not directly told to read material on the thread, but students
will be happy to read if there is no coercion from their teacher. So, utilization twitter
for english learning media is a good idea because it can improve and develop
students imagination.

D. PREVIOUS STUDY
The first previous study by Rully Agung Yudhiantara with the title
“Twitter for Educational Activities in Islamic Higher Education, Why Not?”
This journal article applies qualitative research design which involves 40 students.
They belong to fourth semester of English Department UIN SGD Bandung. This
research collected data through observation, document/ content analysis, and
questionnaire. After that, this research analyzed the data collected through the
following stages : describing, coding, categorizing, analyzing and interpreting.
Those findings show that twitter in this study has supported educational activities for
both lecturer and students, and also showed that the proces of educational activities
occured in twitter which was online even though they were outside classroom.
