Learning activity 1

Evidence: The time is now

This evidence is divided into two parts: A composition and an audio file. Read the
instructions below and make sure you complete both tasks.

A. Answer the questions below. Use the examples as models of the grammar and
vocabulary you have to use.

1. Why didn’t you study English before? (List at least 5 reasons in a


composition.)

Example:

One of the reasons why I didn’t study English before it is because I thought it
was too difficult. I didn’t understand my English teacher at school and that
was frustrating.
One of the reasons I did not study English before is because I used to study in a
traditional garden, but when I entered my catual school I first studied English.

Another reason why I did not study English before was because my mother had very
few studies and did not get much into the second language.

The third reason I did not study English before was because until last year the school
required me to enter the Sofia platform.

The fact of having so much emphasis in school towards English, made me take a bit of
annoyance to the subject so it is one more reason why I did not study English before.

Finally I did not study English before because until a few months ago I decided to
move to Australia in the future and there I need to manage the language well.

2. How different would things be if you had learned English before? (Name and
explain at least 5 things.)

Example:

If I had learned English some years ago I would have accepted a job a
multinational company offered me five years ago. One of the requirements
was to speak English and my level back then was very low.

If I had learned English a few years ago, I could have won a contest in which I
participated and needed to handle a lot of English

If I had learned English a few years ago I would have obtained a scholarship for a
course.

If I had learned English a few years ago I could have talked much more with a cousin
who lives in the United States

If I had learned English a few years ago I would have been able to exchange cultural
information with some American tourists

If I had learned English a few years ago I would have been able to certify with level B1
in the British Counsel
B. Record an audio file of yourself answering the following questions. Use the
examples as models of the grammar and vocabulary you have to use.

1. Why are you studying English? (List and explain at least 4 reasons.)

I am studying English because I want to travel a lot and I know that if I


study English I can communicate more with the people of other
countries.
I am studying English because I want to get new job opportunities
I am studying English because I am very interested in managing a new
language
I am studying English because I would like to explain to my relatives
some words that they do not understand.

Example:

I’m studying English because I finally decided that if I want to improve my


professional profile becoming bilingual is essential.

2. In what ways are you going to benefit from this learning?

speaking a second language allows access to many employment


opportunities and even more means a strong reason in my resume
since being bilingual is essential for my professional profile since it is
linked to my learning line.

Example:

Being competent in English is going to increase the opportunities of landing a more


satisfying and better-paid job. We live in an international open market and English
is the most important language.
