Learning and Development Needs Assessment Plan

Background and Rationale Today’s demand in education is the application of 21st century teaching. But no doubt, in
spite the wide range of using technology as an approach inside the classroom, teacher needs to apply various teaching
strategies that develop critical and creative thinking. He/She is expected to perform task of reinventing strategies that are
suited to the types and needs of individual millennial learner. The central figure in carrying this task is the teacher who
desires to develop not only the skilful hands of the learner but at the same time the minds who think critically and
mindfully.
Based on the results of the group Electronic Self-assessment Tool for Teachers, teachers lack the necessary skills
in applying different strategies that will cater individual differences of the learners. It has been supported by the analyses
done in interpreting the monthly supervision of the school head through Classroom Observation Tools (COT). Teachers
usually resorted to simple use of lecture through power point presentation and proceed to the usual discussion of the
lesson.
It has been noted that teacher failed most of the time to ask stimulating questions that will train the brain of these
learners to think critically and expressed it creatively.
In response to this call, Dep Ed Region IV-A thru RA 10533 Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 crafted the
different strategies like 2C’s, 2I, and 1R teaching and learning approaches across learning areas that will support the
teachers’ practice. With these strategies, it is hoped that teachers can now improve learners’ understanding of the
learning outcomes, heighten learner’s ability to read, write and reason, and ultimately meet the k12 curriculum standards.
LNA Objective/s:
 Apply a range of teaching strategies to develop critical and creative thinking, as well as other higher order thinking
skills (HOTS).
 Update the teachers on different approaches in teaching such as of 2C’s, 2I’s and IR.
 Capacitate teachers on how to apply these teaching strategies such as 2C’s, 2I’s and 1R.
 Develop the art of questioning among teachers that enhances the minds of learners to think critically and creatively.
