SECTION 1: Landscape
B. Arch. (Semester 6) Term Work (TW)
Due Date and Time: Saturday, 4 May 2019, 1:00PM | Maximum Marks = 120

Notes to the Students Doing the TW Assignments given below:

1. Each student must complete all the following TW assignments to the best of
her/his abilities. You shall decide appropriate scale, format, number drawings or
models, and content to express your intent, design, and details, as you deem
appropriate

2. Quality and depth of Design Thought Content and Design Thought


Communication are the two main criteria on which your work will be judged, apart
from good quantity of work. Your work should be well organized, legible, and have a
title box / panel with basic information like your full name, exam/roll number,
semester and year, and name of the institution and city

3. Push yourself, take risk, and be imaginative. Strive to do better than your
perceived best. Surprise me. Make yourself proud.

TERM WORK DETAILS


1. My Significant Place:
(A) Any 3 places from the way to the Haripara reservoir / pond
(B) Any 2 place from IPSA (one square foot and any other part), and
(C) Any 1 place of your choice.
Express your ideas through sketches, drawings, writing (your or borrowed, with full
reference), 3D expression. You should explain why you chose these places and
different ways (physical dimensions, spaces, scale, uses; sensory experience,
emotive response, etc. Describe in different ways what makes your selected place
significant. Write a short note on what did you learn from this exercise. Focus on
“anubhav”, “anubhuti” and “abhivyakti”.

2. Contour Exercise (in the Model, in drawings, and a small write up):
-High Points and Low Points, - Ridges and Channels, Elevation Map, West and
East side aspects, 10-20% slope, and water gathering slopes,
-High suitable, Medium suitable, Low suitable Areas for development / construction
/ human activities
-Needed plans and sections (at least two) with background elevation.

3. Read about Landscape and Landscape Design works (Historical and


Contemporary) Refer the books, Introduction to Landscape Architecture and
Introduction to Landscape Design and other relevant books and magazines from the
IPSA Library. Then write/type a one-two pages notes on main features of the
examples you have read and major lessons for the architects.

4. Reading two articles from the landscape related magazines / journals in the
IPSA library. Write the main inferences and messages from these two articles.
Make your annotations in the photocopies of both of your selected essays / articles.
Write a short note on what did you learn from this exercise.

5. Design Exercise:
-Window (1 out of 2)
-Transition Space (1 out of 3)
You should have and express the big ideas and/or a set of values that guide your
design, specific programs for total number of people (your desired full occupancy),
the experiences you want people to have there in different seasons, and the usual
plans, sections, elevations, a model, and a few sketches and details in apt scales,
and presented professionally. Write a short note on what did you learn from this
exercise.

6. Final Design Exercise (Site of Rajkot)


Visit the site and express your first impressions, emotive (+ve or –ve) responses that
the site and places in and around invoke in you, a SWOT analysis of the site, two
relevant case studies / examples, one historical and one contemporary, a program,
and initial sketches of your design for all the open space available at the ground /
semi basement or podiums and a terrace garden part with plans, section, and some
details.

7. List of literature / sources / resources you have referred to or used to do all


the above work listed for each exercise separately. .

8. Write (A) a Reflection on the entire semester. This notes must include what
you learned about (i) the subject, (ii) about the society we live and work in , (iii) your
own self.

9 Evaluation of the subject and the teacher. Focus on what you liked or
appreciated about both the subject and the teacher and what you would like to
change about the subject and the teacher to make the overall learning and
unlearning better.
