a. Preparatory Activities
1. Opening Prayer
2. Checking of Attendance
3. Drill: Integer Flashcard Activity

b. Review
What a function is as introduced during the Grade 8 Mathematics?

c. Lesson Proper

1. Motivation:
Present a scenario where functional relationships exist. Solicit additional
real-life situations from the students.

2. Lesson Presentation:
Students are divided in groups where they will be given different topics
to brainstorm and come up with a creative presentation. Here are the
topics to be given:
a. Difference of function and relation
b. Function as a machine
c. Function and relations as a table of values
d. Function as a graph in Cartesian plane
e. Function as representations of real-life situations
f. Evaluation of Functions

3. Application:
Highlight the idea to the students that real-life situations may be
represented using functions and need to be evaluated.

4. Generalization:
The teacher will call students to give one fact that they can recall after the
discussion.
a. What are the important things to take note about funcstions?
b. Why is there a need to be careful in evaluating functions

5. Evaluation:
On the last meeting of Week 2, the teacher will give a formative
assessment (paper-and-pencil test).
a. Write 2 classroom scenarios that represent a function
b. Evaluate the following:
1. x + 4, where x =5
2. 2x – 3, where x = -2
3. 5 –x, where x = -3

6. Assignment/Project:
A math puzzle involving evaluation of functions will be given to
students.

d. Summary
1. The students can identify the different types of functions.
2. The students can evaluate functions.
3. They can perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and
composition of function.
4. They can solve real-life problem involving function.
