Discussion Board #1 Original Version

This image was taken this past weekend. My friends and I all had plans and did not think
that we were going to be able to hangout, but at the last minute it worked out. We realized that
we weren’t going to hangout for a few more weekends and decided to drop what we were doing
and hangout. We didn’t make any plans of what we were going to do, and just got in the car and
started driving. We ended up going to dinner. At dinner we were catching each other up on
everything that had been happening in
our lives the past week. After dinner we
were back to not knowing what we wanted to
do. We decided it would be fun to go mini
golfing. The three of us thought it would be
more fun to go with a group, so we invited
three other people to go with us. One of the
people that we invited we normally
would not hang out with, but it ended up
being so fun. We spent a long time at mini
golf playing and just talking to each other. After mini golf we got ice cream on the way home.
This night was so important to me because my friends and I spent time together having fun,
without having a certain plan we just went with the flow. It was also important to me because
even though all of us had not had the best weeks with school, and just life, we still made the
best of it. This experience changed me because it showed me that we can have fun even with
people that we don’t know as well. My friends and I are very close and when we spend time
together we get even closer, and have fun while doing it.

Hey There Delilah
The main conflict of the story in the music video is that a guy and girl are in a relationship but
are not able to spend time together. The two characters are having to live separate lives to both
go after their own dreams. After achieving their dreams separately they then hope to live
together. The singer in the song is trying to explain to the girl that he wishes so very badly to be
with her. He explains that he would do anything to be with her tonight. He even goes so far to
say that he would “walk to her if he had no other way.” The cause of the separation between the
two is something that is common in many relationships. The guy is trying to get better and more
recognition from playing guitar. The girl, Delilah is in school. The hopes of the two characters
are that they will eventually be able to be together, whenever they are in a different stage of life.
The effect of the conflicts on the characters are that they feel sad and lonely. It is very hard to
do long distance when you love someone so much. For the two they do not enjoy being apart,
but know it is necessary to achieve their goals. The boy is hoping to make a life from his guitar,
but in order to do that he has to spend time away from Delilah. He still wants Delilah to feel
loved, and know that she is cared for. This is very hard for many couples because they often
struggle with communication. Though, other couples seem to work through it with no problems.
Time apart is often very hard for many people in friendships or relationships. Though, as the
saying goes “Distance makes the heart grow fonder.”

People with disabilities are often less likely to be considered for a job role compared to
someone without disabilities. There are many different factors that play into this issue. One
cause of this is the level of education they have received. Each year only 65% of disabled
people graduate highschool compared to the 86% of students without disabilities graduating
each year. Education is a major effect when being considered for a job. The level of education
that you have can also determine your level of pay, in certain cases. Around one in three
Americans age 65 to 69 have a disability. Opposed to one in ten people having a disability from
ages 25 to 44. This could cause the likeliness of someone being hired that has a disability
because it is not as common in their specific age range. This opens up more opportunities for
people to be applying to the job without any disability. An effect of this could be if people
develop disabilities later in life. If someone has already received a high level of education before
they got the disability they make be considered differently. This topic is very interesting to me
because I think that each person is unique. If a person has a disability, but can still perform the
necessary tasks for the job, then they should be considered the same as someone who does
not have a disability. On the other hand, I understand if someone was not able to fully fulfill the
role of the job then they could be considered differently. To me this topic could very easily go
either way. Since disabilities are not something that people choose to have, I think it is their
personal choice to work to overcome it as best as possible. This issue is something that will
most likely also be relevant for years to come, and I hope that there is a way to get this worked
out suiting both types of people.
