Live Lesson Reflection Questions

1.Did you achieve both your language and content objectives? How can you be sure?
I believe that we achieved both our language and content objectives effectively. Our
language objective was to have students orally describe the different features of sloths. This was
achieved when the students presented their venn diagram. It was also achieved during the sloth
board game because they were answering questions based on sloths. Our content objective was
for students to determine the differences between sloths. This was achieved by using the venn
diagram activity as well.
2.Do you feel you "immersed" the students in the vocabulary? Based on your assessment, did
the students have their own understanding of each of the vocab words?
I definitely believe that we could have immersed the students in the vocabulary more.
There were a few words we noticed we forgot to go over. However, the students definitely were
focused on the scientific terms for two-toed and three-toed sloths. They made a genuine effort to
memorize the words “Bradypus” and “Choloepus.” Based on the sloth board game, I believe they
had a good grasp on the vocabulary.
3.Do you feel you had enough interaction, giving students the chance to apply the
language/content with other students? Why or why not?
I definitely believe that there was plenty of interaction throughout the lesson. Our
activities were both very interactive and had to be completed with others. The Venn Diagram
forced the students to work together to state the similarities and differences between the sloth
species. The game also made students interact with one another and the teacher as well.
4.What are three aspects of the SIOP process that you find effective and truly need to be in your
lesson plans (especially if ELLs are present)?
Three aspects of the SIOP process that I find effective and truly need in our lesson plans
are Comprehensible Input, Building Background Knowledge and Lesson Delivery.
Comprehensible Input is important because it helps to show if the students comprehend the
material that was taught. Building Background Knowledge is important because students must
have sufficient background knowledge before being able to grasp a concept. Lesson Delivery is
so important because in order for students to retain new information, instruction must be
effective.
5.Looking back now that you've completed the lesson, what is one thing you would have done
differently? Why?
One thing that I would have done differently is make the PowerPoint a bit longer. I think
we should have definitely included a vocabulary slide for students. I also think that maybe we
could have added a bit more information. Overall, I think the lesson went very well.
