Online Learning VS Face to Face Learning

In today’s world, there are so many different ways to get your degree. You can
continue to go school and drive every day to get to class. You can see your friends and
possibly join a fraternity or even a sorority and have the traditional college experience. Or you
can choose to do everything online. A virtual classroom in your back pocket. You can go to
class on your cellphone or log into the wifi at Starbucks on your laptop. You can even go to
the library where it’s free to log onto the computers.

The online classes allows you to plug virtually anywhere that you want to. It has been an
experience that I really can’t put into words. I was able to receive my Associates degree
partially online. Now I am trying to get my Bachelors degree online. Some of the pros that I
have experienced in online learning is that I have been able to choose my own pace. I work
and am married and we have 3 kids. We are always on the go. I am always working. It is very
hard to let my job know that I need time off to go school. I can’t do that with my job. It’s been
great to log into the classes on my lunches and breaks and turn in my assignments. I can even
login on the weekends. And I do that on my cell phone. A few things I don’t like about online
learning is that no one is here to hold me accountable. I have to write everything down and
even set alarms on my phone to remind me of assignments.

There is different level of accountability. In face to face learning you are able to see the
teacher. You can tell by the inflection in their tone if there is something important for a test.
You can share notes with classmates and see if what were’ studying is the same. That makes it
easier to interact with peers in the class. You don’t have to hide behind a screen and wonder if
people truly understand questions asked. It makes it easier to gain an understanding of the
assignments given. Some of the cons in face to face learning is the teacher sets the pace for
the class. It doesn’t matter if you are a slow learner or quick learner. Another con would be
getting to the class every day. It is hard if you have a family or career that keeps you from
getting to the class each day. If you aren’t allowed much flexibility with your schedule then it
will be really difficult getting to the school each day. We all learn differently but it is all about
finding out what works for you. If you prefer a virtual setting with easy access to the class
then online may be best for you. If you prefer eye to eye contact with the teacher and structure
then face to face learning will suit you best.
