1. What is an earthquake?
An earthquake is a natural event inside the Earth which releases built-up energy.
Earthquakes release energy and create seismic waves, which cause the shaking we feel.
It's important to be clear: an earthquake is not the shaking we feel. An earthquake is
the event which makes the seismic waves (we'll talk about them in a bit) which cause
the shaking we feel.

2.Kinds of earthquake?
There are many different types of earthquakes: tectonic, volcanic, and explosion.
The type of earthquake depends on the region where it occurs and the geological
make-up of that region. The most common are tectonic earthquakes. These
occur when rocks in the earth's crust break due to geological forces created by
movement of tectonic plates. Another type, volcanic earthquakes, occur in
conjunction with volcanic activity. Collapse earthquakes are small earthquakes
in underground caverns and mines, and explosion earthquakes result from the
explosion of nuclear and chemical devices. We can measure motion from large
tectonic earthquakes using GPS because rocks on either side of a fault are offset
during this type of earthquake.

3.Causes of earthquake?
The Earth’s crust consists of seven large lithospheric plates and numerous smaller
plates. These plates move towards each other (a convergent boundary), apart (a
divergent boundary) or past each other (a transform boundary).
Earthquakes are caused by a sudden release of stress along faults in the earth's crust.
The continuous motion of tectonic plates causes a steady build-up of pressure in the
rock strata on both sides of a fault until the stress is sufficiently great that it is released
in a sudden, jerky movement. The resulting waves of seismic energy propagate
through the ground and over its surface, causing the shaking we perceive as
earthquakes.

4.Precuartionary measure during an earthquake?

 Drop, Cover, and Hold on! Drop to the floor, get under a sturdy table, and hold on
until the shaking stops. If your entire body does not fit underneath the furniture,
position your body so that at least your head and neck are covered.
 If indoors, stay there; most injuries occur when people inside try to move to a
different location or try to leave. Avoid windows, exterior walls, stairwells,
elevators, and objects that could fall. Be aware that the electricity may go out and
the fire alarm or sprinkler system may turn on.
 If outside, get into an open area. Stay clear of buildings, power lines, streetlights,
and anything that can fall on you.
 If driving, move out of traffic as quickly as possible and shut off the engine. Avoid
bridges and overpasses, and anything that could fall onto your car, such as trees,
light posts, powerlines, and signs.
 If in bed, stay there. Hold on and protect your head with a pillow. Only move to a
nearby safe place if you are under a heavy light fixture or something that may fall
on you.
 If in a wheelchair, stay in it. Move to a safe location, lock your wheels, and cover
your head and neck.
