Hello, grade 4 parents!

My name is Miss Layton and I am studying English Education at the University of Lethbridge. I am currently
working on my Professional Semester 1 (PS1) and for my practicum I had the amazing opportunity to work with the
grade 4 students at Senator Gershaw.

During my month in your child’s classroom, I was able to cover a novel study of Shiloh by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor.
In this novel study, we were able to learn about setting, characters, predicting events, animal rights, facts vs.
opinions, point of view and perspective, and figurative language. We were able to complete various assignments
to demonstrate student understanding, such as cinquain poems, calligrams, a diorama that shows the novel’s
setting, and various worksheets.

I just wanted to thank you for the opportunity to work with your child. It was a privilege to work with the grade 4s,
this class has made my PS1 experience one to cherish.
