Chapter VI

SOCIO-ECONOMIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECT

6.1. Socio-Economic Aspect

1. Create Job Opportunities to the Local Community. The said establishment

will help the occupational status of the adult family members in the area, the

turmeric plantation requires three farmworkers and one delivery driver. In hiring

workers, applicants from Barangay San Emmanuel will be prioritized.

2. Support Community Programs. The proposed business tends to be involved

in the community. For instance, they may sponsor local Little League teams,

participate in community charity events, or guest lecture at the local community

on how to grow business.

3. Community identity. The turmeric plantation will also help contribute in the

identity and character of the community. Having a turmeric plantation in the area

will transform the brand of the barangay to something like “Turmeric Capital of

the City” which will create an advantage to the local tourism.

4. Community Health. Easy access of turmeric in the area will help people with

health problems. Turmeric and especially its most active compound curcumin

have many scientifically-proven health benefits, such as the potential to prevent

heart disease, Alzheimer's and cancer. It's a potent anti-inflammatory and

antioxidant and may also help improve symptoms of depression and arthritis.
5. Illuminate the Area. The establishment will build a pole light in the plantation

site to illuminate the area, which also benefits the nearby households and those

people passing by.

6.2. Environmental Aspect

1. Help Reduce the flood in the Plantation and Nearby Households. Turmeric

grows healthy in a season that is dry and has several sprinkle of rain. If stagnant

water will continue, because of excessive rain, turmeric crops will be rotten. The

establishment will create lining and drainage around the site to mitigate the flow

of the water away from the plantation site. This will also help reduce the flood in

the area and nearby households.

2. No Use of Pesticides. Since turmeric crops are not prone to insects and

pests, the establishment will not be using pesticides because it can harm the

workers and the community. Pesticide compounds could pollute the tissues of

virtually every life form on the earth.

3. Proper waste sanitation. The waste of the proposed business will be

segregated into three (3) categories namely: biodegradable, non-recyclable and

recyclable. The non-biodegradable wastes will be collected by the garbage

collectors of the city in their daily routine. Recyclable wastes will be using in the

beautification of the vicinity of the business.

The Niñas Turmeric Farm will help conserving the mother earth through

their waste disposal management and the maintenance of the surroundings. This

facility will make sure that the costumers will be considered and maintain.
