ePortfolio - Example Final Reflection Questions:

During the process of the Journey Project, we expect that students learn, grow and adapt. Reflection
is a large part of this. Students will need to be prepared to reflect on their own status, growth, and
through processes. While these reflections may be written in first person, responses must adhere to
all formal language and grammar standards. The following should also be expounded upon in
complete sentences:

RESEARCH TOPIC SELECTION WRITING FORMAL PAPER

1. How did you go about narrowing your topic selection? What made you decide on
the final topic?
○ For me, I have always known I wanted to go into business, I just didn't know what
type as business is so broad. Based on my interests with the technology and the
more creative side to business, I looked into the career of marketing and totally
fell in love with the topic.
2. While writing your paper, what did you learn about the research process?
○ While writing my paper I learned research takes time and patience. I researched
marketing as a career and I learned there were many different types of marketers
so I had to research each type to ensure my paper was informative. Also, I
learned that research is a slow process in order to make it education and factual.
Overall, I learned simply how to research with reliable websites.
3. When you complete research in the future what will you keep or change about the
process?
○ I will keep in mind that it is a slow process and that with each website you use,
you have to make sure it is reliable. I don’t think I would change anything about
my research because I remember it turned out very good.
4. What did you find the most challenging in the process?
○ I think the most challenging part is finding good, accurate, and reliable sources to
use for your research is hard. Gathering all the information is also challenging.
5. How confident are you in completing formal research in college?
○ I am very confident I will have a good baseline to complete formal research in
college.
PROFESSIONAL PARTNER
1. How was the research related to your professional hours? If your professional
was not directly related to your topic, what did you learn about the career/industry
that can be translated to any future professional setting?
○ My research was on marketing which related to my mentor because my mentor’s
profession is the director of marketing at her company.
2. Can you describe the professional hours that you completed in terms of timing,
quality of experience, confidence in a new setting, challenges you faced, etc.
○ My mentor hours were very helpful and I learned a lot about a day in the life of a
marketer for industrial real estate. I got her to show me around and tell me some
things that she was working on. Since she works with my dad, she was able to
tell me all about the projects and even showed me what their current marketing
strategies were. This also made the timing aspect pretty easy since she works
with my dad. I also had her look over my marketing plan that I created for the
Journey Project. She gave me some suggestions and told me things I needed to
add. Then, I showed her the website I created and she again helped me and was
very good at it since she designed her company's website.
3. How did working with your professional affect your understanding of the topic
area, development of your project and/or the professional world?
○ I think this was a very good experience as I was able to see how someone
worked in a career I am very interested in pursuing. The experience of being able
to watch her work and see some of her projects she had to work on helped me
understand what a career in marketing would actually be like.
4. If your mentor contributed to the development of the product, how were they
involved?
○ My mentor reviewed my marketing plan and website by giving me suggestions of
what I should include. She also told me some helpful websites to teach me
techniques used when selling and marketing products.
PROJECT
1. How did you go about narrowing your project selection? What made you decide
on the final topic?
○ I knew from the start I wanted to do something with marketing and I had the idea
of marketing a product. Anders had the idea of creating a teeth whitening solution
product so, we combined our skills to create the product, Charcoal Me. We
decided this would work perfectly with both our topics and careers.
2. How did creating a product and completing the hours challenge you personally?
○ This challenged me personally because it was such a long process that took
many steps. The biggest challenge I found for marketing was that I had to
complete one step before moving onto the next. Together we had a big challenge
finding the chemicals in which to use and how to create s substance in which
could be easily applied to the teeth.
PRESENTATION
1. Do you feel prepared academically and emotionally for the presentation? If not,
why?
○ Yes, I felt very prepared because Anders and I practiced a lot.
2. What challenges did you face preparing and practicing the presentation?
○ The only challenge we encountered was just the order of how to present our
product and website. Of course, I was a little nervous too.
3. How did you change or grow as a learner and as an individual? What “life skills”
did you acquire and how will they help you in the future?
○ I think I grew as a leaner and individual by doing this in a professional manner. I
think my future job will require presentations like this one and it was a good life
skill I obtained to practice a business styled presentation.
4. Other than time management, describe any obstacles you faced and how you
overcame them? If you had to go back and do parts of the project again, what
would you do differently?
○ The main obstacle we faced was just figuring out our plan for the project and the
timeline of how we should do things. I think we may have started this a bit late
and even though we did end up being fine, I just would have started earlier.
5. Based on the entire Journey Project experience, do you plan to pursue this field
as a career or area of study in college? If so, why? If not, why? Provide specific
reasons.
○ Yes, I do plan on pursuing the career of marketing and I will study marketing in
college. I just overall really like the work marketing does and with technology
becoming more advanced, the career will also become more advanced which
really interest me. I also like how there will always be a need for marketers
because all products and ideas sold, need to be marketed. The creative side to
this is something I enjoy as well. Therefore, I will be purising marketing and
business.

FINAL REFLECTIONS

1. What are your overall thoughts about the Journey Project?

○ I think the Journey project was a success and I did end up learning a lot about
my career. I liked the presenting style in front of our class because we could
share our hard work to more than just 3 teachers like it was in the past. At times,
it was a little disorganized but I know that’s because we were the first ones to do
it this way. Overall though, I liked the way this worked out and the new formating
was helpful to the students I think.
2. How did you feel about the Journey Fair evening event? Are there things we can
do to make it better? What would you do differently if you needed to do it again?
○ I think the journey fair was a great idea because again, more than the 3 people
were able to see all our hard work. I think for the future of the project people
should stick with a certain real world career because I found those were the
better projects. I think the charity aspect were a good idea but it didn't really
involve a career. If I did it again, for me, personally I wouldn’t change anything.
3. In retrospect, would to re-choose this same topic? partner? project? Explain.
○ Yes i would do it all the same because I think my project was very successful. I
had a great experience doing the project and would not change or redo anything.
