Lacking of some parents respect for teachers: What happen?

They said that teaching is a noble profession. It is the foundation in honing a good citizen of the country.
A teacher is considered as second parent to every learner. But how can they say that teachers are the
second parent of their child if in every instance that their children disciplined by the teachers the result
is losing the job of the teachers or ruining their reputation?

There are lots of cases in the country that teachers have been bullied by the students. But because
students is protected by the child protection policy the teachers just have swallow all the insult that they
get from students. Last August 31, 2019 episode of “Kapag may katwiran Ipaglaban mo”,is about the
story of a teacher whose name is teacher Maricel. She was a victim who was bullied by her student. The
teacher tried her best to understand the situation of the student but unfortunately the teacher lost her
temper and hurt the child. After the incident the teacher tried to talk to her students and apologize but
the parents found out about the incident and sue the teacher. Teacher Maricel was sentenced to be
imprisoned for 4 to 6 to 10 years. Seeing that scenario is really a heartbreaking part. A simple
misunderstanding can ruin some one’s life.

Here in a small school Mapagong Elementary also teachers experience bullying but not by the students
but by their parents. One of the teachers who experience this is a Grade 3 Teacher Genalyn I. Burcargas
who wa emceeing a Nutrition Month program last 2017 wherein she committed mistakes in announcing
the name of the students. The Grandmother yells in front of the students and parent and said a lot of
bad words towards the teacher and she slam the gate. The teacher has no choice but to apologize by
human mistake that she did. According to her, “Para wala nang gulo at matapos na ako na ang hihingi ng
paumanhin”.

Maám Ailyn Dogillo a newly hired teacher Grade 1 teacher of Mapagong Elementary also experience the
insult from the parents. According to her it is just started that one of her students throw the pencil of his
classmate. So her reaction is to tell him that doing that action is bad. So the students yell and throw all
her things inside the classroom and run away. So she called the parent to inform her about her son. But
unfortunately the parent tolerate the act of her child and said to her, “ Hindi ganyan ang anak ko mula
lang napunta sayo nagkaganyan na. Kabago bago mo palang teacher ganyan ka sa estudyante mo”.
Maam Ailyn was shocked not expecting the reaction of the parent toward her.

These are just some of the experience get by the teachers from Mapagong Elementary. Every year there
is a memorable scenario happened between teachers and parents but teachers still continue doing their
duties according to what they know is right. Because according to them that it is their job to continue
inculcating manners to young one’s even sometimes parent forgot their responsibilities to their children.

The Government is trying to help the teachers with this problem so they created a bill which called 17th
Congress Senate Bill No. 1954 TEACHER PROTECTION ACT OF 2018 it was filed on August 28, 2018 by
Binay, Maria Lourdes Nancy S. “ACT INSTITUTIONALIZING SUPPORT MECHANISMS FOR PUBLIC SCHOOL
TEACHERS AND SCHOOL PERSONNEL IN MATTERS OF STUDENT DISCIPLINE AND MECHANISMS FOR
CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT AND PROVIDING FOR THE PROTECTION IN CASE RELATED THERETO”.
Hopefully, this bill will push through to help all the teachers in the country.

Teachers are also human. They also get tired, commit mistake and have feelings. Is just that, they are
tasks to make a difference in one’s life. Let us not forget that after reaching the age of 5 of every
children you entrusted your child to the school and to the teachers. Most of half of their lives spent
inside the school. So, respect all the people inside the school who are part of the well being of your child
to create harmonious relationship in the community.
