In conjunction with the exhibition "The Silk Road", Lille will be
tuning into UK time. From the 1st to the 12th of December 2010,
London will be setting the pace of life in the Lille Métropole.
Go from King’s Road to Oxford Street or Camden Town in a
few hours: the new English scene will be in town with video
at the Espace Croisé, dance at the Opera, theatre and circus
during the day at the Théâtre du Nord and the Prato, while
evenings will be musical with the National Orchestra of Lille,
or pulsing with electro, reggae and funk at the Maisons Folies,
the Aéronef and Le Fresnoy. Not forgetting a whole weekend
at the Tri Postal with Keith Khan Productions, La Braderie de
l'Art by Art Point M in Roubaix or choirs performing at Houplin-
Ancoisne.
Put on a bowler or a punk hairstyle, try out London fashions
and sample Fish & Chips between two exhibitions. Go British
for two weeks, it will make you want to take a trip across the
Channel more than ever.

New Chinese, Indian and Middle Eastern Art

from The Saatchi Gallery.
For the first time in France, the London based Saatchi
Gallery will present more than 60 works from its famous
contemporary art collection, assembled for the exhibition
entitled "The Silk Road" [La Route de la Soie]. The event is
organised by lille3000 and will take place at the Tri Postal,
from October 20th to January 16th 2011.

The Saatchi Gallery, founded by Charles Saatchi in 1985,

now occupies the Duke of York’s HQ in Chelsea, London. At
70,000 square feet, it is the world’s largest entirely free entry
contemporary art gallery, attracting over one and a quarter
million visitors a year.

By championing the work and largely unseen artists, as well

as displaying rarely exhibited work by international names,
the Saatchi Gallery has built up one of the most stimulating
and up-to-date art collections in the world. Over the last two
and a half decades its pioneering exhibitions have showcased
work by over 200 artists and provided a unique springboard for
young unknowns to bring their work to a wider audience, launch
their careers and, as with the likes of Damien Hirst and Jeff
Koons, go on to acquire international fame. For many years the
Saatchi Gallery has had a major influence on the international
contemporary art scene, influencing and inspiring both the
current and next generation of artists and art lovers.

The exhibition INDIAN SUMMER borrows its title from Laetitia
Benat’s film, Indian Summer (1997), presented in one of the
first IDEAL programmes at the Espace Croisé in 1999. IDEAL
is a generic title, invented as an umbrella term for works that
appealed to us, outside of any need to establish links between
them.
After the DONT ACTE exhibition, which presented a selection
of Espace Croisé productions from the last 15 years, this form
of remembrance and tribute conjures up more or less explicit
rites, performed by actors, extras or the artists themselves.
In these films, the majority of which are French and English,
the notion of strangeness unfolds through images that
oscillate between documentary and fiction. The porous
borders of these works shift between contemporary art,
cinema and experimental cinema.

The Night I Became a Doll, 2009, vidEo, 10 mn

In 2007, Alice Anderson visited the Espace Croisé and
expressed a desire to film in Roubaix. She wanted to find a
place suggesting claustrophobia. The Dolls’ Day (2008) was
shot in a reservoir in Huchon. After several shoots in which
she was absent from her films, she returns to face her wax
double. Time has passed and the doll bearing the likeness of
Alice Anderson has continued its journey through successive
installations. Meanwhile, the film The Dolls’ Day has come to
occupy a particularly important place in the evolution of her
creative work, marking the beginning of a cycle whose second
instalment entitled The Night I Became a Doll was made in 2009.
We find the artist and her double as well as images from The
Dolls’ Day in this film.

“FROM L.” is a synthesis of the modern London art scene:
irreverent, dynamic, urban, multicultural and multidisciplinary,
characterising the creative spirit of London.
“FROM L.” presents the work of established artists, thanks to
contacts developed with local galleries (SUBWAY GALLERY
and SIGNAL GALLERY among others) and represents the
emerging art scene, even providing a springboard for a young
painter recently an award winner at the CHELSEA COLLEGE
OF ART AND DESIGN.
“FROM L.” Will also include four French artists (JEF
AEROSOL, THOMAS KIMMERLIN, MIMI THE CLOWN,
THOMAS TRAMP) presenting their interpretation of a LONDON
viewed from France.
The title “FROM L.” alludes to “From Hell” (the pun almost
works almost as well in English as in French!) the comic
book series by ALAN MOORE and EDDIE CAMPBELL and the
ALLEN HUGHES film made from this book, tracing the London
history and legend of JACK THE RIPPER, a historic and iconic
London figure.
The exhibition title therefore also makes reference to London
life, which for some can be a true hell of temptation, violence,
suffering and vice.

A star is born !
Israeli-born and British by adoption, Hofesh Shechter is the
new star of contemporary dance. A graduate of the prestigious
Batsheva Dance Company of Tel Aviv, he moved to London in
2002. In recent years, he has defined his own style: a sparing
use of sets, very sharp lighting effects favouring shadows
and sculpting the body, muscular, rapid and unpredictable
movement. His dance exudes a strong sense of the collective
and maximises the visual impact of the chorus, canons and
hyper-synchronised movements. His gestural ideas always
render the effort, rhythm, physical power and drive from which
they are created. All with a constant attention to producing an
art that is immediately accessible.
After two short pieces presented last year at the Maison de
la Danse in Lyon and the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris, he is
returning to France with a large format show and a fierce
desire to let loose.

Seeing in all colours, hearing in all languages! The programme

of this BABELONDRES evening in the Condition Publique
venue renamed as “Caisse de Propaga-sons” should take us
far away from standard French: words will invade the venue,
whether Arabic, Polish, Picard, Flemish, English, Senegalese,
or from countries that do not exist. Reggae, sound poetry,
French chanson or electro will tumble forth in the music of
an English dub poet, a Belgian performer, a Polish slammer
or a Paris barker. We’re also expecting you, wherever you
come from, to come with your words... We will try to improvise
together in all languages.

At the age of just 27, Berlioz unveiled his Symphonie

fantastique. In the course of these extraordinary pages the
listener is transported through hallucinatory opium vapours
to a devilish apocalypse! But nothing actually ends without
Lélio or “The Return to Life”: the two parts together form a

Pink Floyd is synchronised with the last section of the film
2001 A Space Odyssey (1968) by the American filmmaker Stan-
ley Kubrick. This synchronisation, re-interpreted by the English
musician Scanner, combines the twin influences of rock music
and science fiction films for an original rereading of two mas-
terpieces of late twentieth century culture.

AVENUE WILLY BRANDT 59000 LILLE a museum, but a place of art and life, it contains three long
2 minutes on foot from Lille Flandres and Lille Europe train stations exhibition spaces, each with a surface of 2000 m², providing the
METRO: Gare Lille Flandres venue with exceptional scenographic versatility. As a result,
WED > SUN: UP TO 10 AM it has always been able to change its image in relation to the
events being organised.

This building is also a place of performance, fashion,

installations, festivals, clubbing and dining, and is equipped
with a children’s space. Offering at the same time a friendly
atmosphere and selective programming, the Tri Postal has
become a genuine cultural and artistic benchmark.
