Sir/ Ma’am,

I recently received an acceptance letter from Dalhousie University for the Masters in Applied Computer
Science program. The course is due to commence on September 1st, 2019. Thus, I am writing to you for a
study permit in order to complete my education. This statement contains my background, motivation and
reasons to pursue the desired education. I hope it convinces you of my suitability.

BACKGROUND:

I completed my under graduation from an NBA accredited institution in Information Technology. I have
theoretical knowledge of programming languages, discrete mathematics, relational databases and software
engineering. Post-successful completion of my bachelors, I have over two years of experience as a software
developer where my job responsibilities included development and maintenance of software systems. I have
worked on programming language PHP in past before switching to Python and Django last year. Along with
scripting languages, I also have experience in both SQL and NoSQL databases. I have also worked on
distributed databases like RIAK-TS and streamlining utilities like Apache Kafka and Apache Spark. Along
with this, I am also adept on configuring and deploying servers and have a firm grasp over SVN tools like
Git.

My general research interests lie in analysis and development of information retrieval and machine learning
techniques that help in efficient adaptive data mining. I am particularly interested in and have a keenness to
study the techniques applied in content management of distributed web systems like social networks. My
other areas of research include algorithm development and efficient system designs. The problem of bad
system designs long persists in most of the government sector websites and software in my country. I want
to use the exposure from a western education to better the system designs, from query optimization to
scaling the software as a whole.

PURPOSE OF STUDY:

I have already acquired a firm foundation in the field of computer science through my academic choices and
professional career as a software developer. My current academic aspiration is to pursue Master's degree in
Computer Science with specialization in Machine Learning/Distributed Databases. I want to specifically
study subjects such as Machine Learning and Big Data. Also, a Master’s course in Computer Science would
equip me with a deeper knowledge of aspects that I have learned during my professional and academic
ventures. I believe following this path will take me career in the intended direction. A specialized education
at this stage will help my career by leaps and bounds.

WHY CANADA:

I believe that a master’s degree under the educational construct of a developed nation like Canada will help
me in my career, both in terms of quality education and great work opportunities during my PGWP period.
While similar courses are available in India, the avenues to gain hands-on experience made Canada the
superior choice. Considering the nature of my degree, I require cutting-edge infrastructure and state of the
art facilities, which universities in Canada provide. The universities are at the forefront of innovation and the
cost of education is more affordable as compared to other countries like the US and UK. On a personal note,
I am excited to study along with people of different ethnicity and look forward to my personal development
whilst studying in Canada.

WHY DALHOUSIE UNIVERSITY

Attending your prestigious institution would give me an opportunity to receive high-level education under
the guidance of prominent professors and excellent teachers. I would regard my admission in your esteemed
institution not only as a great honor but also as a great responsibility and challenge to prove myself. Hence I
request you to consider my application positively. A Master’s under the guidance of erudite professors like
Dr. Qigang Gao would be a privilege and help be bolster my knowledge and would help me with my career
progression as a Data Scientist. His work in research papers like Detecting anomalies from big network
traffic data using an adaptive detection approach and ELM: An Extended Logic Matching Method on
Record Linkage Analysis of Disparate Databases for Profiling Data Mining caught my attention and
propelled me to choose him as a mentor for my Masters.

FUTURE GOALS:

I intend on coming back to India after the completion of my graduation. I have already established a
professional network over the years, which I can leverage to gain a position in a company working with
Data Analysis. After developing my niche, in the longer run, I see myself elevated to a managerial role in
the future and part of the decision-making process in a reputed organization.

Therefore, I place my request before Canadian High Commission to consider my application for a student
visa.
